Poor excuse for a "manager" abused me in front of customers because I wanted to pay by card (the bill was 44 Euros), he insisted it is normal in Italy that card payments under 50 Euros are not accepted. This is clearly nonsense as I can't recall a restaurant in recent memory, in Italy or elsewhere, not accepting cards (other than those that clearly tell you up front). The street food vans in Riva del Garda the day before took card payments for 8 Euros, it is most definitely NOT normal in Italy. I was abused for "coming here, not speaking Italian or German" (I'm sorry mate, if fluent French and Spanish are not sufficient, and my schoolboy German wasn't enough), abused for coming to a restaurant without enough cash, and a completely sarcastic response as he explained percentages that get deducted for card payments. I don't care, sort your bank out but never ever abuse customers for wanting to pay by card.
Food was ok, Hungarian waiter was lovely and funny, the toilets were horrible and the kitchen staff twice brought bin bags through the restaurant. So if that's your thing, and you want to pay in cash, then go there. But, there are plenty of lovely places to eat in Meran, with great food, and nice service, where you will also escape being abused by a...
Read moreThe Laubenkeller came as a very chilled out , shaded respite after a long walk and a hot day enjoying Merano.courtyard The small garden courtyard is attached to a beautifully decorated restaurant . First out was a basket of bread. There was an interesting bread in the basket which was more like a rye cracker ( the larger round object in my picture). Watch you teeth--this thing is hard!😒 The food was delicious, The pasta with chanterelles was cooked perfectly and the chants were especially tasty. The Wiener schnitzel was also good but I did not particularly care for the mayonnaise based potato salad which accompanied the schnitzel. Restrooms are available and are located across the courtyard . They require a token which are located in a basket on the counter in the restaurant ( a first for me😂 ) Services was fast and efficient. Prices were a bit steeper in...
Read moreThe manager abused my husband and I for not speaking Italian or German. We speak English, French, Spanish, fluent but this was not good enough as Italian was limited. We wanted to pay with card, which he refused claiming he had to pay 6% to the card co. He told us this was normal in Italy despite the fact we told him we had travelled extensively and this had not been the case in Italy. We had food and drinks but he was not happy we had no desert. Terrible manager. To top it all the kitchen staff carried their bins via the restaurant to clear the rubbish and it was only 8.30pm we all viewed this and smelt this! This was rude, revolting and most important unhygienic. Do not go and get abused by...
