Thai food done well has subtle flavors, a variety of textures, great presentation, and all built on careful recipes using fresh ingredients. Bussarakham has all of this in a Rome location just steps from the Metro A Manzoni stop (and St John Lateran). We were a group of 5 with a reservation booked through an app and they were ready to seat us. We started with the appetizer platter with satay, banana wrapped chicken, fried dumplings/gyoza, and fried spring rolls along with 3 dipping sauces. Tom Kha Kai soup with mushrooms and coconut milk could be split into 4 small bowls, but the 3 soup lovers at the table decided it was too good to share. Our server suggested the papaya salad as another starter and this was a first time trying it for most of our table. They were all pleased at the crispy fresh texture, the vinegary dressing and the amount of heat in the dish. (We did medium-mild but we also asked for chili pepper oil for the more ambitious diners.)

Phad See Ew Nuah with beef was also a big winner with thick noodles and a rich dark sauce. I almost wanted a basket of bread to soak up the sauce when we finished it. Phad Thai with chicken was also savory with just a hint of peanut sweetness--not overpowering. They had a list of wines and we tried the Reisling Pitzon which was a mild white wine--not too sweet or minerally. On a Friday evening early (730PM) it was not fully booked--perhaps the neighborhood is not...

We were tired of pasta and pizza (dominant food in Rome) and seeking an alternative. As a Canadian (Toronto), we are use to more restaurant food style choices, so we were happy to randomly come across Bussarakham (a Thai Restaurant) on our walk about! The venue itself is extremely impressive, beautifully decorated in a Thai style. The table settings are beautiful including banded plates and gold colored cutlery with cotton napkins. The food is top notch! For lunch, I had the chicken pad thai. It is one of the best pad thai I have ever had (and I have had a lot of pad thai). My wife had Chicken pad see ew and was equally impressed. The only surprise was as the end we discovered there was a 2 euro fee/person for eating there added to the bill. Not a big deal but that was a surprise. All in all, I am glad to have come across Bussarakham and had an amazing...

Mentire...

The place pretends to be thai but it is probably run by Chinese. I had chicken satay and it was so full of MSG to feel sick afterwards. We also took mango sticky rice that was made with syrup/conserved mango, sticky rice was not washed and prepared accordingly. Portions were small, service was poor. They even kept pressuring us on the table to leave earlier. Prices were high for such a poor quality of ingredients and taste. I’ m sorry for leaving just one star but overall it felt like a scam. Only good point was the atmosphere.
