Bar Iolanda — Restaurant in Capri

Do not come to this place. I wish I saw the reviews before I came here.

They completely scam you. Our bill was €56.00. The waiter came with the Eftpos machine and placed it on the table which showed €56.00 so I paid it and it declined. He said it was the Eftpos not me and brought over another Eftpos machine. He didn’t show me the amount on the Eftpos machine, so I tried to look but he kept purposely facing it away from me so I already had a feeling he was trying to scam me. I didn’t extend my card out to him because I wanted to see the amount first, but he hastily brought the Eftpos machine to my card and charged it, and I saw it said €62.00. I said to him that he put in a different amount and he just said it was the right amount. I said it again and pointed at the bill, and he said “10% service charge” AKA “I made you give me a tip and hoped you didn’t know about it”. I even said to him “But you didn’t put €62 the first time” but he just aggressively kept saying it was a service charge. I thought it was ridiculous as they don’t tip in Europe (and if they did, you would choose how much!) and he did it in such a sneaky way. He placed the Eftpos machine with the correct amount on the table to make me feel like he would input it correctly the second time he came over so he could scam me.

Best believe I will be contacting my bank about this.

Additional information: The service is very slow. I ordered a salad with anchovies and it was the saltiest salad I’ve ever had. It was disgusting and I couldn’t finish it. I understand anchovies are salty (and I usually like it) but this was just over the top.

Also, one of the waiters were yelling at some people who either passed by or just left the restaurant. Not sure why but very...

We arrived at capri tired and with the chaos of people around us, looking to take the train to go up to the top of the island, out of no where, and probably noticing we looked lost, Giuseppe told us what to do, he was so kind and friendly, he told us to come back later, I normally don’t pay attention (specially in Italy) to people stopping you to get you to enter their restaurant but because he helped us with the train without trying to get us into the restaurant we felt that after coming down we were gonna have a drink. We came down in agony, so dehydrated, so tired and desperate for a cold drink to bring us back to life! So we asked Giuseppe for a recommendation and he brought us 2 elixirs 😝 orange juice with lemon slushy! Just what we needed to recover energy and battle the heat! Thank you so much for your kindness, treating us well (probably one of the only places in our whole trip were a server made us feel welcome instead of making us feel we shouldn’t even be there) and your delicious recommendation of a drink. Ps: yes it is expensive like...

Before leaving a comment I've been scrolling thru the reviews and got kind of annoyed about the amount of people complaining about the prices. Yes it is expensive! But don't come to Capri if you are not willing to spend that amount of money! Capri, apart from the beautiful cliffs and live island vibe, it is also known to be quite expensive! Anyway we after a long hot day roaming around Capri. We decided to come in bar Iolanda for some food and I've got to say, they greeted us and served us like royalty! Giuseppe and Salvatore have an outstanding costumer service! Really attentive and charismatic. Food wise tasted better but it still says "island" after every bite! Drinks a tad bit expensive, but again, it's Capri! I can assure you that almost all the snack bar by the sea are going to charge you that much! Location a bit noisy but lovely seabreeze. Overall I'm going to recommend it to everyone I know that is going to Capri! Best costumer service you'll ever get!...
