This place was way overhyped. We came because we thought it’d be great/ local as it came recommended by the place we were staying at (whole ‘nother story on that disaster). This place is a place to see and be seen, not so much to enjoy delicious Italian food. The setting is pretty nice and they start of being pretty friendly and helpful, but the food is honestly just so meh and average. It’s overpriced, even by Capri standards, but I can understand why because they have photos up everywhere of celebrities and people come dressed to the nines, everyone looking around the room to see who’s here for the night. The waiters were overworked and trying to be friendly to everyone (they openly ask for tips) so everything takes forever, even just getting the check took 30+ minutes. It was late summer and mosquitoes were abuzz, so honestly it was quite tiresome to witness this charade when all we wanted to do was leave and move on with our evening.
Food wise we had two large appetizers, and two pastas. Burrata on fresh tomatoes—burrata and tomatoes were both pretty nice but also absolutely nothing special at all in this region, and about 2-3 times the price anywhere else.
Tuna tartare came highly recommended by the server but it was pretty awful for me. Super super fishy and tuna-y, honestly it smelled so strongly of canned tuna, though obviously it was raw. I usually love fresh raw fish, but this one I couldn’t swallow. Maybe I’m used to Japanese style raw fish…? No idea what this was.
Porcini mushroom pasta was probably the only saving grace of the evening, a little under salted but otherwise quite delicious and fragrant. Tagliatelle was also well cooked to a nice al-dente.
Seafood linguine on the special with “fresh baby squid from the waters around here” was pretty dismal. Looks good in pictures but man was it awfully fishy. I do enjoy seafood I promise, but I have no idea why the seafood here was soooo fishy. Are they not cleaned/stored properly? Anyway, meh.
Would not not not recommend unless your priority is people watching and not food-oriented. There are far far FAAAR better places in Capri with great service and a dining experience...
Read moreThere are places that wear luxury like a tailored suit — seamless, elegant, earned. And then there is Villa Verde, which drapes itself in reputation like an ill-fitting costume, hoping the sparkle of Capri will mask what lies beneath.
Despite securing our reservation through the concierge of a five-star property — a gesture that should carry weight and ensure a degree of care — we were led past the glamour and seated in what can only be described as exile: a corner of the restaurant. My partner faced a trio of wilted flowerpots, while I enjoyed a front-row seat to the mess and clatter of the waiters’ service station. The atmosphere was less la dolce vita and more backstage at a wedding buffet.
Service was a rumor. No real welcome, no presence, no rhythm. We poured our own wine, twice, while staff swirled around us as if on autopilot, too understaffed or indifferent to notice. The food? A theatrical exercise in plating — average in taste, but priced as though it had Michelin stars whispering in its ear.
And then — the music. What is it with the music? One moment it's pulsing like a beach club at midnight, the next it's hushed to a whisper. The volume swelled and dropped like a DJ unsure of which party he's playing for. If this was an intentional effect, words fail.
Villa Verde is not a restaurant. It is a reputation machine, feeding on the illusions of Capri rather than delivering its essence. Overrated, overstretched, and ultimately forgettable — except for the price.
Capri deserves far better. So...
