LA LEGGENDA DI EST! EST!! EST!!! Nel 1111 Enrico V di Germania, futuro Imperatore del sacro Romano Impero, stava raggiungendo Roma per essere incoronato da Papa Pasquale II, in viaggio con lui era presente il vescovo Johannes Defuk, grande intenditore di vini, il quale, sempre alla ricerca di nuovi sapori, inviò il suo coppiere Martino ad assaggiare e scoprire nuovi vini, per poter poi scegliere i migliori da proporre al vescovo. I due avevano un codice da seguire, nel momento in cui il coppiere avesse assaggiato un buon vino avrebbe dovuto scrivere davanti alla porta della locanda 'EST' ossia 'c'è' in latino, se il vino era invece molto buono 'EST EST'. Quando Martino giunse a Montefiascone ed assaggiò il vino del posto ne rimase piacevolmente sorpreso, decise dunque di segnalare la sua eccellenza, scrivendo sulla locanda EST! EST!!EST!!! con tanto di punti esclamativi, da qui il nome del vino. Il vescovo, una volta arrivato in paese, assaggiò il vino e condivise appieno il giudizio del suo coppiere, decise dunque di prolungare la sua permanenza a Montefiascone per alcuni giorni, successivamente, terminata la sua missione, decise di tornavici e lì restò fino al giorno della sua morte, avvenuta, secondo i racconti, proprio per aver bevuto in eccesso.

Venne sepolto nella chiesa di San Flaviano, dove ancora oggi è possibile leggere sulla sua lapide l'iscrizione 'Per il troppo EST! qui giace morto il mio signore Johannes Defuk'. Il vescovo, come segno di riconoscenza verso il paese che lo ospitò, gli lasciò in eredità 24.000 scudi, a condizione che annualmente, nella data della sua morte, una piccola bottiglia di vino venisse versata sulla sua tomba. Questa tradizione è stata ripetuta per diversi secoli e, ancora oggi, questo personaggio viene ricordato con un corteo storico in costume a lui dedicato, durante il quale viene rivissuta questa leggenda. THE LEGEND OF EST! EST!! EST!!! In 1111 Henry V of Germany was reaching Rome with his army to receive from Pope Paschal II the crown of Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. After him there was also a bishop, Johannes Defuk, wine connoisseur. To satisfy this passion to discover new flavors, the bishop sent his butler Martin ahead with the task to precede him along the road to Rome, to try and choose the best wines. The two had agreed on a code signal: if Martin had found good wine, he would have wrote "Est", or "No" next to the door of the inn, and when the wine was very good, he would have wrote "Est Est". The servant, when he arrived in Montefiascone and tasted the local wine, could not otherwise communicate its exceptional quality. He decided to repeat three times the signal agreed upon and reinforce the message with six exclamation points: "Est! Est!! Est!!!". The bishop, who arrived in the country, shared the opinion of his butler and he prolonged his stay in Montefiascone for three days. Indeed, at the end of the imperial mission he returned there, stopping until the day of his death (apparently due to an excess of drinking). He was buried in the church of San Flaviano, where you can still read the inscription on the gray lava stone plaque: "For too much EST! here lies dead, my lord Johannes Defuk.". In gratitude for the hospitality received, the bishop left a legacy to the people of Montefiascone of 24,000 scudi, provided that on each anniversary of his death a barrel of wine would have poured on his grave, a tradition that was repeated for several centuries. To the bishop is still dedicated a historical parade with characters in period costume, that bring this legend.

On our only two days in Como we decided to check this bar out before dinner. The first night Gnocchi made us AMAZING sazeracs and gave us shots of Frangelico. We also got to know another employee Mohamed who was such a joy to chat with on both evenings. The apperitivo served with the drinks was PHENOMENAL! Great drinks and great staff! I hear the later hours get busier but at the times we went it was pretty quiet with a few other customers. I’d definitely recommend stopping by if...

Drink niente da ridire, normali così come il prezzo giusto per la zona.

Tuttavia personale molto scortese. Mi sono seduto insieme a 2 amici su un tavolo dopo aver chiesto se fosse possibile a un cameriere ed aver ricevuto la sua approvazione.

Tempo neanche 5 minuti si presenta uno dello staff che con fare supponente e quasi svilente ci dà un paio di versioni diverse e contrastanti sul perchè dovessimo alzarci. -versione 1: se si ordina al banco non ci si può sedere, ma non contento ha deciso di partorire in maniera tempestiva una ragione alternativa che riporto di seguito -versione 2: il tavolo è prenotato alle 01.30 / 02.00; erano le 01.15, il signore non sapendo l'ora si è verosimilmente inventato un orario al momento (ammetto, andandoci molto vicino).

Dopo aver fatto notare che il cameriere ci ha dato l'ok, il solito signore scortese di cui prima ha un'illuminazione percepibile nei suoi occhi e capisce di quale cameriere si tratta. A tal punto per aver conferma dei suoi sospetti se ne esce con: "il pakistano? Lui non sa bene come funziona".

Vista l'insistenza e il fastidio che trasparivano abbiamo deciso di alzarci per sollevarlo dalla nostra presenza non gradita.
