Pretty Cafes in Florence - Episode 2! ☕️ . @caffegilli , which opened in 1773 is the oldest coffee shop in Florence. They serve delicious coffee and pastries, and have a full service food menu as well. The location in the Piazza della Republica is amazing - you can choose to sit outside to people watch, or travel back in time a few centuries and sit indoors. It is evokes such an old world feeling! Everything is so beautiful- right from the menus, to the coffee and desserts. Tip : Their freshly squeezed orange juice is delightful - highly recommend getting a glass with your coffee! . . . . . . . #theprettycities #coffeeshopcorners #coffeeeee #eeeeeats #dametravelerfoodie #bestambiance #bestambience #prettylittletrips #beautifuldestinations #theshopkeepers #storefrontcollective #bitsofbuildings

Looked great, reviews pretty good, was getting late so decided to relax and enjoy the atmosphere whilst having some food and drinks. However, it took them ages just to come and take a drinks order. I asked for my beer and a bottle of water straightaway whilst others had ordered cocktails. As we were all thirsty. Watched the waiter and others service and pondered around. Had to call him over and ask why a bottle of water would take so long. Sri KS cam almost 15 minutes after we ordered them, plus the 5-8 mins sitting waiting for them to take the order. A friend had ordered a virgin colada and it wasn't!!! He asked me to taste and I realised immediately this was with rum!! They initially kept saying it's not. I insisted on tasting and they then took it away... To them return apologies and replace it. Then the food all came out rushed. Food was good. Then he couldn't be any nicer. Then came the bill. I thought as a courtesy they would deduct the drinks. I almost had to argue and they reluctantly took off the Pina colada for 12 euros. (He did bring me a beer for free, but the way they pour them in small glasses wasn't even worth it). Anyway, maybe a bad day, but it wasn't even busy and you would think in a place like that they would be more attentive and communicate better.

I rarely visit the same place twice when travelling — yet in just 2.5 days, we found ourselves at Gilli not once, not twice, but five times! That says it all. We first stopped in for breakfast at the bar and were served by Antonio, who delivered not only delicious coffee but truly outstanding service. Despite the rush of a busy morning, he took the time to chat with us, introduced us to “El Padre,” and even surprised us with a little chocolate treat. His warmth and professionalism made us feel right at home, so we returned that very afternoon for more coffee — and once again, Antonio was just as attentive and friendly. An absolute star! Later that night, we came back for cocktails. Juan Carlos greeted us with the same level of hospitality — engaging conversation, fantastic drink recommendations, and what was genuinely the best Espresso Martini I’ve ever had. Of course, we couldn’t resist returning the next day for breakfast, pastries, and a final coffee before leaving Florence — we kept finding excuses to come back! I cannot recommend Gilli highly enough. Delicious food, fantastic coffee, excellent cocktails — but above all, the exceptional service from the team truly made our experience unforgettable. We will absolutely return the next time we’re in Florence! ✨🍸☕️

Caffè Gilli is a historic café located in the heart of Florence, Italy, known for its elegant interiors, rich history, and traditional Italian charm. Here's a review based on the general experience:

Atmosphere**: The ambiance of Caffè Gilli is a perfect blend of old-world luxury and contemporary sophistication. With its chandeliers, mirrors, and marble accents, the café has a timeless elegance that transports visitors back to early 20th-century Florence. It's a great spot for people-watching, as it’s located in Piazza della Repubblica, a bustling area with plenty of foot traffic.

Food & Drinks**: The café is known for its wide selection of pastries, chocolates, and traditional Italian desserts. The coffee is of exceptional quality, as you'd expect from an Italian café of this stature, and their cappuccinos and espressos are especially popular. The pastries are fresh, beautifully presented, and delicious, making it a perfect spot for a mid-morning or afternoon treat. Their menu also offers light lunches, such as sandwiches and salads, along with a selection of wines and cocktails.

Service**: Service at Caffè Gilli is professional and courteous, though it can sometimes feel a bit formal. Given its prime location and historic reputation, the café tends to attract tourists, which means it can get crowded, and the service can sometimes be a bit slow during peak times. However, the staff are knowledgeable about the menu and provide recommendations when asked.

Price: As expected for a café with such a prime location and history, prices are on the higher side. You’re paying for both the food and the experience, but many visitors feel that the ambiance and quality make it worthwhile.

Overall: Caffè Gilli is a must-visit for those looking to indulge in a classic Italian café experience while enjoying the beauty of Florence. It’s perfect for a special treat, whether you're savoring a pastry with coffee or enjoying a glass of wine while taking in the view of Piazza della Repubblica. It may be a bit pricey, but the experience...

Stepping into Caffè Gilli feels like stepping into a world of timeless elegance and unparalleled culinary delight. My recent visit was an experience worth savoring, thanks to the exceptional service provided by Tomas and the exquisite pastries that accompanied the most amazing cappuccino I have ever tasted.

From the moment I entered, Tomas greeted me with a warm smile and a level of attentiveness that instantly made me feel welcomed and valued. His genuine passion for coffee and dedication to excellent service shone through in every interaction. Tomas's recommendations were spot-on, guiding me through the menu with expertise and a personal touch that elevated the entire experience.

The cappuccino at Caffè Gilli is nothing short of a masterpiece. Perfectly balanced with a rich, velvety foam, it was the ideal complement to the array of delectable pastries on offer. Each pastry was a work of art, showcasing the finest ingredients and meticulous craftsmanship. The flavors were sublime, with each bite delivering a taste of Florence’s rich culinary heritage.

Caffè Gilli seamlessly blends historic charm with modern sophistication. Nestled in the heart of Piazza della Repubblica, its stunning interior and elegant ambiance create a perfect setting for both leisurely mornings and sophisticated afternoons. The cafe’s commitment to quality and tradition is evident in every detail, making it a standout destination in Florence.

Caffè Gilli is more than just a café; it is a testament to the art of fine living. With its impeccable service, exquisite offerings, and inspiring ambiance, it stands as a beacon of Italian elegance and hospitality. Don’t miss the chance to experience the best of Florence at...

We went to this restaurant because it had been so favorably reviewed on social media. We went for a late lunch. I expected that it would be a fairly expensive lunch, but I was fine with that assuming it was good quality. When we finally were acknowledged by the wait staff, we very quickly put in our order because we had a timeline and had to get back to our tour bus. My son and I each ordered a full club sandwich, and my daughter ordered a half club. The other three people with us each ordered a sandwich. Everyone besides me ordered water. I ordered an iced tea. The water was promptly delivered. At that time I asked about the tea and was told it was coming. Understand that it was a warm day with temperatures approaching 90f, so I was thirsty. The meals were delivered, except for my daughter’s meal. Before I could ask the waiter about her meal or my iced tea, he was gone. When I was finally able to flag him down, he seemed surprised that there was any problem. I asked again for my iced tea and my daughter’s meal. He returned fairly quickly with my drink and said it would be five minutes for the meal. Everyone waited for her meal to arrive. It finally came after 25 (not five) minutes of waiting. The food quality was decent, but by that time, we were fairly frustrated because we were all waiting and on a strict schedule. When the bill came, (€132) I saw that my daughter’s meal was on the bill. I asked that her meal be comped. Suddenly, the waiter who had previously spoken English fairly fluently could only speak Italian. I did pay the total amount, but I was very disappointed it...
