I personally almost never post reviews on places as most people that post the reviews seem to handle it very well and very accurately, but this is an exception.
I'll begin with the only good thing, and it's the service. When the chef herself comes to greet you and explain the menu, that speaks volumes about hospitality. Oh, and the wine was good.
Now, my partner and I ordered six dishes, ranging from antipasti to secondi, and none of them were particularly flavorful or memorable. In fact, we didn’t even finish one dish, which is unusual for me as I almost always just eat everything away.
Furthermore, I felt that the space was cramped, and I almost tipped off with my wooden bench(that was my chair).
Now, this is purely optional and you can choose to ignore this part, I find that it's totally unprofessional to have a loud pro Palestine support signs at the entrance of restaurant when the place has nothing to do with it. Also when we were payed with our... Israeli card, the initial warm attitude shifted to visible disgust, as though I were personally responsible for every single thing happening. Stay away if you're from Israel.
Overall, food was disappointing, service was pleasent and the place...
Read moreWithout a doubt one of the best meals I had in Florence. While there are numerous places to try traditional Tuscan fare like the bisteccas, Dalla Lola's take is a rare delight in a city eager to please a constant deluge of tourists. The humble Gnocchi here is served with beetroot carpaccio and a miso sauce, a trio you're unlikely to spot in a place together. The fried pork chop was juicy and succulent; the breading seasoned just right to tantalize the tastebuds by itself, and also acted as a willing sponge for the tomato sauce. Finished the meal with their coffee cake with mascarpone and it was scrumptious too.
Dalla Lola's ambience is excellent too. It is tucked away in the delightful Santo Spirito neighbourhood, away from the chaos of the city center, a chilled out, relaxed atmosphere made all the more amazing by a genial and attentive staff. The owners seem like genuinely wonderful people, and the food they're dishing out pays reverence to tradition, while also daring to be different. Would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a lovely eating experience. Please do note that reservations help MASSIVELY, because they're only open for a couple of hours in the morning/afternoon and...
Read moreplease forgive me for only grabbing these two blurry photos of the best restaurant experience of my life. this place is real. the chef-owner matilde is your waitress, the manager is your waiter, and the two cooks in the kitchen round out the entire tiny crew of this gem of an establishment. the menu is handwritten on a paper placemat and changes daily— check their instagram for today’s offering — and everything is inventive, balanced, new and familiar. we shared a table with two florentines who have a band and casually flowed in and out of conversation with us; we scarpetta’d every plate clean, earning heart hands from matilde; and for the first time in my life i understood what restaurants are supposed to be. Dalla Lola gives you the comfort of your living room with the social energy of your favorite bar, and feeds you home cooking but with recipes you don’t know (and couldn’t make). one day we may start a restaurant that strives to make people feel the same way we did tonight. and we’ll look back to Dalla Lola with gratitude for the flavors, vibes, and...
