La Cantinetta — Restaurant in Florence

Probably the worst meal I have ever had this year.

First of all, the waiter’s attitude SUCKS. I asked how long it will take because we need be at the next spot with an appointment. He said “ 3 hours”. I don’t appreciate the joke at all. Then he served the dishes , want to look at my phone, saying “ next time if you don’t want to wait, go to McDonald. This is how things work in Italy”, SO RUDE!!! Anything wrong with checking the time?

Then the food. The mussels starter is the WORST EVER! We had just a few and can’t eat any more and the whole plate is almost untouched. Very strong fishy smell. The other starter, burrata cheese tomato, barely qualified. And the main course seafood spaghetti, NOWHERE compared to the one we just had only a few days ago from our trip in NICE. I bet any restaurant could come up with something better

The drink. I order Negroni. Probably the worst Negroni I ever had in my life. Very bitter

This place is a gem. After getting completely burned at Caffe Academia suffering from extremely poor service, poor quality and taste of food, this place is a little slice of heaven. First, Altin was one of if not the best waiter in Italy on our visit. He has a very calming effect and explained our questions very thoroughly with grace. We decided on a huge steak florentine for four. He told us the best temperature to order it and he was correct. It was absolutely delicious and came with roasted potatoes that were very good. We had caprese salad and even though the tomatoes could have been a little riper it was still tasty. There was no room for dessert as we were all full. This place oozes class, respect, and customer satisfaction. There is a reason why it has an overall rating of 4.6. Yes, I got the normal reply from Cafe Academia about how everyone has different tastes and expectations. Worst meal we had in our 7-days trip in Italy!! We ordered grilled fillet steak with roasted potatoes and risotto with cheese. A bone - huge like my pinky finger nail in my first bite of the steak.. I was lucky that my teeth are strong. And, the steak has no taste at all and even my husband cooked a better steak than this EU38 steak. And the staff never come and ask if the food is okay or not. AND when we pay the bill we found that they charged EU3 each for “Coperto”, which we later search online and found out it means bread basket and we didn’t have any as they didn’t give one to us!! We recognized that other tables have that bread basket and we assumed they ordered one or it comes with wine order, no wonder it is automatically charged and we never had that!! That’s nonsense! We don’t know Italian so we didn’t figured it out until we left the restaurant.. What an unpleasant meal and we will never recommend...
