Go to any other place within a 1 min walk to avoid unnecessary fees this restaurant charges. Simply a tourist trap.
Stayed close to this square during our time in Florence. We had our first meal next door at Il Bargello next door which was great. A few hours later we were nearby again and decided to try these guys for a quick snack and drinks instead of going back to the same place.
Ended up paying almost €70 for 2 drinks, a salad and some bruschetta at what would classify at best an average restaurant.
For comparison 2 drinks, a pizza and a pasta next door cost €50 on the same day next door or on the other side of the square €60 gets you a 1kg steak, salad, roast potato and 2 glasses of wine.
In my experience; €70-100 has covered meals and drinks at much, much better restaurants not only around Tuscany but within walking distance to this location.
To be fair we didn’t try pizza or pasta or any mains for Il David and pricing for those may be more in line with the rest of the square. What we had was just not that great, small portions and very- VERY basic.
These guys charge you a service charge which is uncommon for this type of establishment, only the fancier premium locations usually charge this type of fee so having the audacity to charge this when non of the surrounding businesses are doing it whilst providing the customers with an identical level of service is a bit surprising. I’ve only had to pay the surcharges I was charged here in more exclusive restaurants and it was totally expected (example: right by the grand...
Read moreMy wife and I went here to have lunch on our first day in beautiful Florence.
I had the "Atomic Pizza" (mozzarella, tomate, saucisson piquant, saucisse, champignons naja calabrais piquant) and my wife had the "Neptune pizza" (mozzarella, gorgonzola D.O. P., jambon toscan et poires). Both were just OK and tasted fine, but a good Italian pizza is something entirely different. This had a thick crust, was very greasy (wet) and when take a bite everything comes of the pizza. The Atomic pizza was € 18,50 bit was worth €10 max in my eyes. The Neptune was with bakes pear, but this was a dissapointingly strange combination of tastes. We do not recommend. This pizza was €17,-
Also we had a bottle of "Il David" chianti from 2021 which was €21. Nothing spectacular but still good taste.
We finished both with a cup of coffee. (Americano) Which was just regular hotel-like coffee. Again, not like good Italian coffee. Conclusion: We all had things that the Italian are famous for, but it looked like this was no real authentic Italian restaurant in our opinion.
When it was normally priced we would recommend it, bit it really is way overpriced for what you get. And a top of this they charge "coperto", which are extra costs for the use of everything at and on your table. This is a usual custom in Italy but still, not worth your money at this place. We payed a total of €76,50.

Read moreFood was quite good, we got the bruschetta, tagliatelle with boar and the lasagna. It was a bit overpriced for the size of the meal. The location and decor was excellent. My issue comes with the service. We were initially seated outside (for good reason, as the atmosphere is quite pretty) but it began to rain. Obviously, we asked if we could be seated inside. While they did agree and helped us to carry some of our dishes while we got our belongings, they neglected to get the rest, so we had to go out into the rain to get the rest ourselves. We later asked for another glass of wine that never arrived (there was at most two or three other tables served, so it wasn’t an issue of them being busy). This would all be brushed off if, when it came time to pay the bill, they insisted several times that I should tip them. As I understand it, this is not common practice in Italy due to their service industry pay structure, and in fact is commonly used by dishonest staffs to guilt American tourists into paying unnecessary charges. Judging by this restaurant’s responses to other critical reviews, perhaps this arrogant behavior is to...
