During my recent stay in Florence, I had the opportunity to dine at Trattoria Dall'oste, a renowned establishment recognized as one of the top 101 steakhouses in the world. Located in the heart of this historic city, the restaurant offered a memorable culinary experience.
From a culinary standpoint, the experience was particularly enjoyable. As a vegetarian, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the dishes offered. The vegetarian dish I chose was delicious and well-prepared, demonstrating a great attention to detail and a mastery of ingredients.
The ambiance of Trattoria Dall'oste is also a highlight. The warm and welcoming atmosphere greatly contributed to the dining pleasure. The service was impeccable, with attentive and courteous staff ready to meet all our needs.
However, there are a few areas for improvement. Firstly, the presence of vegetarian dishes is not clearly indicated on the menu. Adding a small green leaf symbol next to vegetarian options, as many other establishments do, would greatly facilitate the choice for customers like me who avoid animal products.
Secondly, I was somewhat disconcerted by the image of a "happy" cow with wings, seemingly flying to the sky. This representation can be perceived as misleading from an animal ethics perspective. It is important to remember that animals are never happy to die or be exploited. Such an image could be replaced with one that more respectfully represents animal life.
Trattoria Dall'oste is an excellent restaurant that deserves its place among the world's best. Despite a few minor reservations, mainly regarding the clarity of vegetarian options and the representation of animals, the overall culinary experience and atmosphere make this restaurant a must-visit...

— setting the story; we are Americans (English only😬) driving from Rome with a stop in Orvieto then to Florence. Let’s just say, my perfect plans went astray. So we arrive in Florence about 4 hours later than planned and a FEW other bumps. Our hotel didn’t seem as on par as us spoiled Americans 🤪😬 are used to. Needless to say, we were a little freaked out when our very friendly Taxi driver was like, don’t walk around here (train station area) at night. With our street smart skills on full blast, hangry and tired we thought we would try the nearest restaurant. SHAZAM!!! What just looks like a simple little eatery from via Luigi Alamanni, had a simple sign directing us to enter from side street. Pleasantly surprised, the entry was very upscale and classy and this ended up being one of the best meals we ever had. Seriously! We didn’t want a lot to eat bc it was late for us, about 2140. However, with the ambiance and welcoming spirit from our fantastic waiter, we decided to go for it and ordered the Chianina steak, salad and potatoes. I know, how southern USA can they get ( 🥩 and 🥔 )! Our meal was extraordinary! Perfectly cooked, seasoned, displayed and served!! The atmosphere was elegant but not stuffy. Marco was a true professional. The service was stupendous and super fast! Trattoria Dall'Oste - Oricellari And Marco; thank you for topping our day off and making this evening extra special during this most amazing vacation in the MOST AMAZING AND BEAUTIFUL country ever!!!...
Read moreTrattoria Dall’Oste was recommended by many, shown in many videos to be the masters of Bistecca Alla Fiorentina and great Tuscan cooking. This may well be true however the service was truly lacking here.
We had quite a large table for 9 people and while we were seated relatively quickly - we then waited 35 minutes to be served. I wish this was an exaggeration and I’d like to say the servers forgot about us but we reminded them twice we were ready to order within 35 minutes and no one came to the table.
With our patience wearing pretty thin we decided to place an order for entrees and mains and a few bottles of wines at the same time. This paid off because not once were we asked throughout the rushed dinner service if we wanted more wine (even though we had finished the bottles).
I understand these are in some peoples views small issues however we were more then willing to order more drinks - we just weren’t given the opportunity to do so. If I were the owner of the business I would want to ensure as many sales as possible. This wasn’t possible as no one was there to take our order.
The food when it arrived, all at the same time was solid. The bistecca of course cooked to perfection. Ther steak tartare was delicious and well seasoned and the pastas - while not being mind blowing were cooked well.
Next time we are in Florence we will probably look to a local trattoria - it feels like this establishment might have gotten too big for...
