I thought long and hard about leaving this review because part of me didn’t care but it’s been bothering me. It was relatively early in the evening-I am a solo traveler and was waved by the manager rudely to “go downstairs and to the right” where I was greeted by no one and so I just sat down at a table because there was another solo traveler sitting at the table next to it. There were a bunch of empty tables. After 20 minutes the room was full and in that time I could get no one’s attention. One of the waitresses finally saw me then waved at the male waiter and said “get her a menu” (I speak Italian) and he all but threw it at me. He then dropped bread on the table with no oil, salt or pepper (if you’re Italian you know Florentine bread is very flat tasting so it can carry the salty meats and olive oils). So finally he took my order and it took almost 3 hours to eat my meal. The basement room could have been anywhere mediocre in this world. The upstairs trattoria was cozy and bustling-it seemed everyone who was dumped down there was a bit miffed. The waiter was gregarious with everyone else in the restaurant but would hardly give me the time of day. I have traveled solo a long time and it’s gotten better over the years. I’ve been in Firenze a full week and this was the only restaurant on this trip to treat me so poorly. That being said the steak and potatoes were the best I’ve had here. The pasta was good enough and very full of truffles, but this was hands down the poorest treatment I’ve had at a restaurant. Don’t go here if you’re alone but I’m sure it’s fine...
Read moreHad a really awful experience here. I arrived with my family on a normally busy evening with 3 or 4 similarly sized groups waiting outside for a table and being given wait times. When I went in to register, I was told to follow the waiter and was taken to a restaurant across the street which was supposed to be additional seating. When we sat down, it seemed like it was a wine bar where everyone else was drinking and we were the only ones being served food (from a limited menu). We were hungry so we ordered and pretty much all the dishes we got were mediocre or awful (very much unlike this restaurant usually). And from the door, we should see plenty more people arriving and waiting normally for a table in the main restaurant. The only thing I can think of that was different about our particular family was that we were a different ethnicity, but lots of other similar sized groups of tourists were seated in the main restaurant after us and zero other groups were seated for food in this otherwise empty wine bar. Very very disappointed at our...
Read moreDuring our walk from Firenze Santa Maria Novella, I realized the family could use a bite to eat before tackling the 414 steps up Giotto's Bell Tower. We stumbled upon this restaurant, and it turned out to be exactly what we needed. The server was welcoming, attentive, and professional, and the food was fantastic. To start, we shared the antipasto misto toscano, crostini misti, and ribollita. Everything was flavorful, and the ribollita, which had been on our food bucket list, certainly lived up to expectations. The chopped chicken liver on the crostini was surprisingly delicious, too. For our mains, we ordered lasagna, penne strasciate al ragu, a salad with grilled chicken, roast beef with potatoes, and porchetta with potatoes. No complaints about any of the main dishes—the food was flavorful, and the portions were generous. For dessert, we tried a chocolate cake and tiramisu. While not our favorite dessert of the trip, they were still enjoyable. Overall, this restaurant was a great find, and I highly...
