If you’re a tourist looking for a highly rated restaurant with 4+ stars and overwhelmingly positive reviews, I would strongly urge you to reconsider this venue despite its positive reviews and 4+ star rating.
You might be wondering, why wouldn’t I recommend this place despite the amazing feedback? In my opinion, those reviews likely come from locals, or travelers who speak enough Italian to get on the staff’s good side. Or perhaps the male waiter I encountered wasn’t on shift during their visit. Unfortunately, my experience was quite the opposite
During my visit, I encountered a particularly rude and dismissive male waiter, middle-aged, dark-skinned, and Spanish/South American in appearance, whose attitude soured the entire experience. From the beginning, he made it clear that serving us was a burden. When I politely asked for a second bottle of water, his sarcastic response was “Yes, tomorrow,” and it never arrived until I asked another staff member. A request for some Parmigiano cheese was met with a loud sigh and an exaggerated eye-roll, as if I’d asked something completely unreasonable.
What made the experience worse was witnessing how this same waiter treated local diners, with warmth, attention, and excellent service, while tourists, including ourselves, were met with clear distaste and disrespect.
As someone of Italian descent whose grandparents immigrated from Italy to Australia in the 1950s, I found this especially disheartening. I may not be fluent, but I understood enough to catch some of the inappropriate remarks and tone directed at us and other tourists.
Toward the end of the evening, I ordered a coffee that never arrived. After waiting 10–15 minutes, I decided to settle the bill, unsurprisingly, the coffee wasn’t on it.
Unfortunately, the food didn’t do much to salvage the experience. While the entrees were enjoyable, the main courses were underwhelming and forgettable.
To sum up: if you’re a local, buon appetito. But if you’re a tourist who doesn’t speak Italian, don’t expect the same treatment. You may be better off dining somewhere your presence is appreciated, both for your custom and your...
Read morePlates (read food portions) shrunken during the years. 👎
Family owned restaurant, famouse for Mussolini quotes on the walls. Restaurant used to be famous for big food portions. It seems that their plates have shrunked during the years. I've been visiting this restaurant since 2016 and can say that the service and quality degradated over time.
They used to serve fresh pasta (like 2-3 ravioli) while you are waiting your dish, fresh bread, generous portions of pasta and Cottoleta milanese in big plates.
This summer I went for a lunch with a friend who speaks just English and for convenience for the first time we spoke english instead of italian with stuff. As a result we didn't get fresh pasta before our main dish (that used to be served before, like 2-3 ravioli for welcoming guests), the bread was stale, we had to ask for fresh bread, oil, salt and pepper on table.
Pasta al ragu was average, but the portion was far away from those generouse portions that I remember from before.
Cotoletta Milanese was super thin and dry. Disappointing experience.
I tend to ignore recensions that argue how some restaurants are treating bettere locals than foreingers. But in my case eather it was preceisly that or they substituted their business model of big portions of fresh and delicious food with avarage portions and below avarage food. Prices remained the same. Reservation is still required. After this disappointment, we won’t be coming back to...
Read moreWaiters seem to be fighting each other and are just unprofessional in general - some of them, not all
Edit after owner's review: It wasn't really the fact that waiters were joking around with each other but the person who was serving us was a bit rude while taking our order (which is okay, sometimes people have a bad day), then they brought a basket of bread and wouldn't put it down himself - wanted me to clear the center of the table for him and was staring at me like i'm dumb and don't understand what i'm supposed to do (incident 2) but then they brought plates to the table and placed them (or rather shoved them) half on the table and half off, just not interested in being professional, like he had no desire to be there but had no choice but to (incident number 3). So the vibe was very off for us unfortunately, whatever the reasons may be. After waiting quite some time for our drinks to arrive (which did not arrive with the entree) we decided to just leave, when we informed the hostess that we were not treated properly she did apologize but in a dismissive way - like we don't need/want you as a customer. So yeah, whatever this place is famous for it's definitely not for being welcoming all the time. Maybe you were having a bad day. I hope you understand that as a customer I just want to order some nice food and pay money, not have to wonder if the rude treatment is worth all the...
