Looking at the menu this should have been a reasonable night out. The earlier reviews seemed split but we figured it was worth a go. Unfortunately the waiter must have been on work experience as he had no motivation or interest. A bottle of water was plonked on the table without asking if we'd prefer fizzy or still. The bread arrived after the main course was served and he insisted on bringing us our chips before the chef had started cooking our mains!
Our order was taken by the owner who seemed totally disinterested so it wasn't surprising that both our mains were wrong (starters were actually quite good). Work experience waiter insisted they were what we'd ordered, as did the owner, so we asked for the menu to show them what we'd asked for. Realisation dawned on the owner and he scuttled off to stir up his chefs.
Mains arrived with chips (second appearance) and a plate of stone cold vegetables. We told YTS waiter who shrugged and went to heat them up, I guess. Mains were actually good but then we got a lecture from the owner that vegetables are typically served cold in Naples. We pointed out that this was nonsense and that there was a difference between room temperature and barely defrosted.
Needless to say no tip was offered but the owner did knock €2.75 off our bill.
Menu was good, food was good (when you got the right order), attitude was very poor.
We like our meals out and having chosen to pay €18 for our wine, perhaps expected a bit more interest and attention from the staff....
Read moreNot bad food but beware of the stinging €3.50 per person cover charge and overcharging. Someone will hand you a leaflet on via Toledo and the menu prices look very reasonable BUT when you come to pay the bill you will get a shock. A lunch of acceptable but hardly spectacular fare will be blown up to cost you what you'd expect to pay for something far far better. The waiter will tell you the price and not initially present you with a printed bill. If you are unfortunate enough to find yourself in this tourist clip joint do not pay this but ask for the bill. In our case we didn't do this and found it next to impossible to argue the overcharge of €7 for a glass of wine that was €5 on the menu. When I did ask for the receipt after paying the waiter tapped away frantically on a calculator to try and work out how to tally the price he'd charged me. Presumably that was the origin of the exorbitant cover charge and the overcharge for wine. This restaurant obviously does a good trade in tourists arriving in Naples from the port. I've been in Naples countless times but still got stung by what I can only say is a clip joint. My own carelessness but I strongly advise anyone to avoid this place or risk that unpleasant feeling of being ripped off despite your best efforts. Zero...
Read moreWarning: Don’t go to this restaurant, you will be scammed! At first it looks like a heartwarming traditional trattoria with cheap prices on the menu, but after all they will charge you extra without telling why or specify it in receipt. Actually they did not even give a receipt, when we wanted to pay the bald man just came up with a random amount that was way too much compared to the prices on the menu. Service was kind of rude too, feels like they didn’t care if I wanted to order or not. Hard to get a contact with a waitor when it was time to order. Bread was served to us by literally throwing it on our table without saying anything. While eating the restaurant’s workers shouted loudly and fight with each other, not a great atmosphere to have dinner in. After all a very bad experience as many others have stated before in reviews, I honestly don’t understand how they have so good rating (maybe they are kind only to locals?). Food was good but it means nothing when service is super bad.
So briefly: Stay away from this restaurant and spend your money somewhere else instead to support real and honest...
