Found this place thanks to the reviews, otherwise I would never have found it, as it's hidden in a dark little street parallel to Via Maqueda. If you're coming for diner (haven't done lunch), be sure to be very early as the trattoria very quickly fills with local people who clearly know this place very well, or even better, try to book a table in advance. It also helps to understand some Italian. But dear me, what an outstanding price-quality ratio. Their primi (pasta or risotto) only cost about 3 to 5 euros, but you get an amazing plate, full of flavour and also a very generous portion. Went there twice and tried several plates - all of them were outstanding and I'll remember especially the spaghetti cozze/vongole and the risotto marinara. Their secondi (main courses, basically fish or meat as such) aren't perhaps that special, tried one (mix of grilled seafood) but was just slightly disappointed as the fish was a bit too-well done. Don't bother about the secondi though, just share a number of primi together and you'll be more than happy. Three primi for two (hungry) people should be more than enough, and even with a full litre of water you won't pay more than 20 euros in all! About the waiters, they definitely are nice people but again it helps to speak or at least understand some Italian. Service is also quite quick, which works in two ways: you get your dish quite quickly, but on the other hand you're not expected to stay for many hours after you're finished, unless perhaps you really do the full monty as many locals do: come with the whole family and take antipasti, primi, secondi, a few dolci and a few litres of wine. If you're coming to taste a few dishes, you'll be served happily but they want to keep enough availibility after you for those wishing to do what I just described. That's not being rude but just the way...
Read moreMy Sicilian 🇮🇹 wife, her family and I came here hoping to enjoy a “real Palermitan” food experience; Unfortunatelly, we came across racist and dismissive staff.
I ordered pasta with clams and mussels which took them 20 minutes to serve after the rest of the family had been served and stank rotten 🤢🤢🤢. My wife had ordered swordfish with calamari, which she waited to start eating until my meal had been served. This tasted off pure amonia 🤮🤮🤮, so she asked for the meal to be taken away. When doing so, the waitress made a funny face reacting in a dismissive manner and refusing to assist any further with alternative options.
On payment, the “restaurant” charged us for her meal claiming that it had taken her too long to ask for her meal be removed and therefore this had already been “eaten”, even though the plate was still full with fish 🤯. She explained that it had taken that long as she had been waiting for my meal to be served before start eating, to which the waitress and the manager reacted in a violent way by shouting and telling us to leave after paying the bill in full.
Extremelly unpleasent staff and mediocre food which does not represent Sicily nor...
Read moreMy favourite place to eat in all of Palermo. Everything about it makes me so happy. The food is insanely good, the prices amazing, the people super friendly, and the place is just so nice to sit in. We ate here 4 times during our trip and I wish we had more time to try other things on the menu. My favourites are their pastas: ricci e gambero (the sea urchin makes the sauce super creamy and umami-y), nero di seppia (a dry but strongly flavoured version I prefer to the saucy ones I've tried elsewhere), scogglio (fresh seafood with strong herby flavours) and cozze e vongole (the garlic and the fresh clam flavours are magnificent). Their grilled swordfish is soft and juicy and so well seasoned, which I prefer to other ones I've tried in Palermo. One of the people recommended their raviolo con ricotta for dessert and I'm so happy she did because it was amazing! Make sure you book though as they're popular and it helps to learn a little basic Italian...
