Service: The staff were standoffish and pushy, hovering to take our order before we had even looked at the menu. They continued to push the tasting menu despite our clear preference to share à la carte. Several staff members stood around watching guests’ every move, creating an uncomfortable environment. Despite so many staff waiting idly, service dropped off considerably once we ordered.
Ambience: The space felt cold and uninviting – bright overhead lights, teal floors, and a few awkwardly spaced tables in the center made it resemble a cafeteria more than a restaurant. The room had an echo that only heightened the lack of warmth or atmosphere. With harsh lighting reflecting off the glass windows, there was no view to enjoy – only glare.
View (or lack thereof): When we asked to sit outside on a clear, mild evening (around 65°F / 18°C), we were told the terrace was closed for the winter (early October). Given that other nearby restaurants had outdoor seating open with blankets or heaters, this seemed more like a choice of convenience than necessity.
Food: The food was fine but unremarkable. The menu sounded more creative than what was actually served, and none of the dishes stood out. Prices were reasonable for Positano, but the overall experience was disappointing. I would not recommend dining here, even for those staying...
Read moreVisited La Serra for my birthday dinner in May. It was exceptional. The 7-8 course tasting menu was fun, inventive, and delicious (ottimo). We marveled at the beauty of Kandinsky's Lunar Eclipse, drooled over the flavors of "crustations ... traveling to Thailand," and overall had a blast experiencing the differences between the dishes. It was clear that there is phenomenal teamwork between Chef Luigi and his wife, Nicoletta, who oversees the front-of-house and is one of the most well-regarded Master Sommeliers in Italy. The food further elevated the wine that was specially paired, a mix of traditional wines of the coast and experimental takes on Italian wines, the Barolo served alongside the Buffalo dish as an example.
Altogether... even in the rain (without the ability to have a view of the coast), this was one of the best dining experiences of my life. And the same applies to my boyfriend who was born & raised in Positano. We really felt that much thought and care was put into developing dishes that further elevate and highlight the ingredients and traditions of the Amalfi Coast. Thank you to Chef Luigi, Nicoletta, and the staff. I hope to have the opportunity to return and see what other magic you all create...
Read moreThe food, service, and view are excellent. There are several tasting menus to choose from as well as à la carte and the wine list is well conceived and well priced. The entrance to the restaurant is a bit strange, as it is a hotel and the restaurant is down one floor from the lobby. Unfortunately, there was no one to greet us when we arrived, but we found our way. The one issue we had was the room itself. While the view is incomparable, the decor is dated and a bit sterile. Feels more like a wedding hall than a Michelin star restaurant. Once the tables filled in, it was a bit warmer, but the room could really stand a makeover. Food has a decidedly French flair and everything was perfectly cooked, perfectly served, and beautifully explained. Overall...
