A good place to take a breath from Rome’s traditional trattorias. It is still not easy to find these type modern restaurants with good food in Rome. It has this northern Italy elegant touch. The food is generally good. The antipasti was well prepared with some crunchy veggies, original sauces and different choices of fried rice balls and chicken croquettes. The pasta falls behind the pasta offered at the down to earth real typical Roman trattorias but it was a good try with wild asparagus vegetable linguini. The ambiance is elegant and it is nicely decorated with a good touch of soft green. The service is fine. The night l visited was a slow night and l hope it does not get confused on busy nights. I understand it is a popular lunch spot as well. The sorbet they served was nothing but water with ice. They certainly need to learn how to do sorbet or stop serving it. But overall it provides a good change of air from Rome’s rather heavy trattoria ambiance. There is still some space to improve its food but it is almost there. Also well located. Not far from Piazza del Popolo, about a kilometer and a half away into Via Flaminio ..and the prices much more reasonable than “centro storico” historical center for a restuarant...
Read moreThe food here is simply not worth the price. Chicken was extremely salty (not spicy as described), served rather bizarrely as a spatchcock with the wings attached, which was just kind of hilarious. The steak was chewy and cold, the taco was swimming in oil, and the curry would haunt you with its blandness.
Not trying to be mean - the staff were nice and the decor is charming enough, if a little dated. But this is where the positives end.
What’s truly unforgivable is that they kept bringing us bread we didn’t ask for, even before we’d finished the previous baskets, and then charged us for every bowl as if we’d ordered it. This tactic drove the bill up significantly. And yes - they charge for the water too, though it’s presented as if it were tap.
I know we are tourists, we are gullible, we can be easily swindled, but I’d spent a good deal of time researching places in this area, especially because my parents couldn’t walk very far on foot. This felt like a slap in the face. I work in hospitality back in London, I can say with confidence that this would never fly. If you have no other options, I advise you to have a few drinks and some snacks instead. But for...
Read moreThe food here is next level, I've been to a lot of places that serve nice mash potato and I like to think that I myself can make good mash... Try the roast beef and mash here and you'll have to rethink what good mash is. Don't think English roast beef and mash either, it's nothing like your thinking. I tried the food before I took a photo, big mistake in this case. After the first mouthful I forgot to take a picture. The photo I have was taken by my lovely Girlfriend who is not the best with a camera but it gives you an idea of the dish. I ordered a freddo cappuccino, which I like sweet but they serve them unsweetened, I mentioned quietly to my girlfriend that I should have asked for it to be sweeter and within moments someone was at the table with sugar syrup for my drink. I wish we had service in the UK that was this attentive. All I can say is if you are in the area this place is a must. Absolutely blew us away. If I could give more stars I would....
