TL;DR: BAD PLACE NO GO!
Worst food I had during my week in Italy, and I managed to go to a few sub par places but I didn't feel the need to review them. Ordered the Bruschetta and what did I get? Limp white bread with cream cheese.
Fine, first miss, this could still be saved. Moving on to the main dish. Ordered the Spaghetti Cacio e Pepe. Classic Roman dish, in Rome and honestly a dish so simple even I've made it at home a few times. And yeah, the sauce wasn't too bad. But holy hell they had an interesting spin on the term "al dente"! Pasta was undercooked, and felt like biting into pub calamari. on top of that it, since when is spaghetti square???? Also, don't get the ravioli ... my girlfriend got it and half of them were barely warm in the middle. Creamy sauce came quite watery too.
Ok 2 meals gone bad, but theres still desert left. Maybe they can still redeem themselves with a nice desert. Cheesecake! Everywhere does cheesecake. Don't even care if it's fresh just gimme something sweet and pleasant. And wow they brought out something decadent. But just as I go for my first bite I get stopped by my girlfriend pointing out... what a hair? a bit of dirt? NOPE! MOULD! A BIG LINE OF BLUE MOULD ACROSS THE BACK!
Called over the waitress but she insisted that was normal and it wasn't mould and that was just the way it was. I'm a big fan of ugly food, but don't give food that looks like it could make me sick! Anyway I tried a little bit of the other end and it was bland as hell so they missed the boat on the dessert too.
Could not recommend this place less, seriously the only reason they stay open is because they are right next to the Colosseum and because they spend more money on making the place look nice than they do making the food palatable. Avoid...
Read moreBeautiful location with terrible staff! I have never been treated so badly in an Italian bar! I understand that the place is overcrowded and full of tourists and that the staff can get stressed and nervous, but at least some respect should always be shown to the guests. First, we wanted to make a quick stop for coffee at the bar. Two waiters at the bar completely ignored us. After 5-10 minutes of trying to explain that we wanted two simple espressos, one of them said they were busy because they had a lot of dirty coffee cups to clean. In reality: they were just moving coffee cups from one part of the bar to another, and then moving them again and again while talking, joking and simply ignoring their work duties. Secondly, they were moving said coffee cups in a very loud way, basically throwing them and making such a noise that it was impossible to wait for a coffee in peace. I was expecting one of the empty cups to land in my face. Thirdly, the toilet was a disaster! Extremely filthy, with dirty toilet paper everywhere and water and rubbish on the floor. Apparently no one had checked the situation in the toilet all day. So instead of showing my guest in Rome the nice "espresso on the bar" culture of Italy, we ended up being completely disrespected by the staff, which has never happened anywhere in the city or in any Italian bar in Italy or abroad that I have ever visited. It was just a waste of time to take a 30-40 minute break for a...
Read moreHaving had a few drinks along the same street over the course of few days we decided to have a drink at what appeared to be a more sophisticated cocktail bar. The drinks were all around 12 euros, far more expensive than the other locations on the same street and actually worse. The spicy margaritas that were ordered were not spicy and were one of the worst we have ever tasted, just pure alcohol and no hint of cocktail making expertise. Read the reviews for yourself and if you want a drink on this street there are a number of others further down ever closer to the colosseum at nearly half the price with much friendlier staff and service. A clear giveaway was the request to pay before drinks had even arrived. Avoid at all costs sadly.
In response to the owners comments. This is the correct review for the bar. We knew the cocktails were 12 euros and has nothing to do with display of price but more In relation to relative value of other bars on the same street. To further clarify we were asked to pay before the drinks arrived, which I refused, so if you are preventing that from happening to others thank you for taking that on board. All five people that tried the margaritas on the table agreed that it was too strong to drink. Take note of the other reviews that mention the...
