Enoteca Peluso — Restaurant in Rome

My family and I were visiting Rome and then going on a cruise. The cruise ship was going to have overpriced mediocre wine so our plan was to buy a couple of cases of good wine in Rome to take with us. We found this wine shop/bar close to our hotel.

We wanted to order some tasting flights to decide on the wine to take but they wouldn't do that. There was eight of us there so we each ordered a different white and a different red. We all tried each wine and then made our collective choice. Once the owner better understood what we were doing he got into the spirit. He then brought out some desert wines for us to try along with some sparkling wines. We also had a nice couple of plates of appatizers.

Ultimately we purchased about three and a half cases of wine. The owner gave us a small discount and delivered the wine to our hotel the next morning all packaged for traveling.

It was a good experience and would be a 5 star review if they did...

Dishonest. Beware. Day 1. Asked for a 20€ bottle. He gave me the only unmarked bottle, and charged me 24€. Odd. Day 2. I asked for a 20€ bottle and he grabbed one off the shelf, charged me 20€, but the way he scratched the price tag off without letting me see it made me suspicious. Day 3. That same wine was on the shelf. No price tag. I asked the assistant how much. She went in the back to him, and came out and announced 15€. I said in a loud voice- yesterday the owner charged me 20! He came running out and said. Oh yes it is 20€— . But today it is 15€? No no! It is 20, but yesterday I only charged you 18! I had given him my only 50 and he had given me 3 tens back, so i know he charged me 20. So unfortunate. I have another 7 days here. He lost 7 sales to me, and wine sales on our closing party…and of course all the people we work with here now know. Things are tough with Covid…...

Bad experience, rude owner. We came for a quick drink as a group of 4 with 2 kids. When we arrived there was no one else there and the staff told us to pick any table we wanted. We got seated at a table for 4. The staff had just come by to start taking our order when the owner interrupted and said rudely - "you move there" and forcefully removed the menus right from our hands. He pointed to a small table for only 2 people. We moved, but were crowded and uncomfortable. Much later another group came to take the table where we were originally seated. I have never experienced such outwardly...
