Be aware!
I booked a dinner at Giano for my friends and I, 10 people in total. I was asked to pay a deposit of 252 EUR which was 30% of the total cost of the set menu I had ordered, and was informed that the deposit would be deducted from the final bill. Along with our dinner we ordered two bottles of wine and 5 cocktails. A few days after our visit I realised that the deposit had never been deducted from the final bill of EUR 980. In contacting Giano I have been meet with a total lack of accountability from the restaurant. The bill we received included everything we ate and drank during the evening, but additionally the staff at Giano had billed us for two extra bottles of wine(that were twice as expensive as the ones we ordered) and another single glass of wine perfectly adding up to the deposit I payed of 252 EUR. Additionally, this was done on a separate check dated over two hours after we left the restaurant!
I have had several phone calls with a man called Ivano at Giano, but he refuses to refund me even though any fool would realise this is a certain sign of an effort to mislead and scam the customer. I have never in my life been treated as such a fool as I have by the people at Giano. Who instead of trusting their customers, trust the sommelier and waiters that are lying to them.
The fact that the staff thought they would get away with charging us for three extra items that perfectly adds up to the deposit payed by me on a different(!) bill is extremely rude and I expected much more from the people there.
Thankfully my credit card company employees more reasonable people and they have been able to refund me the money as this was an obvious attempt to scam me.
I would never recommend this...
Read moreIt is important to note that I am an American and ethnic Indian. I enjoy traveling and understand that cuisines and service varies from country to country. I’ve come to an understanding that pasta Al dente is firm and, although not entirely to my taste, is how pastas are to taste from the county that created them.
That all being said: Giano has been the restaurant I enjoyed the most during my two trips to Rome. Orders two pastas (spaghetti with puréed fish and lime zest sauce; pork stuffed ravioli) and a sea bass main course as well as glass of toscano wine. Every dish was flavorful in its own manner. Time was taken to prepare each dish and I could finally appreciate Al dente without feeling I was eating undercooked pasta.
The service was equally rewarding. Francesco took time to explain different items and find options that would best suit our palate. More importantly, I didn’t feel I was being judged for what I was ordering, an unsettling feeling that I have encountered more frequently than not during both my visits, occasionally even frank racism.
I’m not pretentious and I’m not a connoisseur. But I can tell when the food is cooked well with a unique flavor profile. Combine that with excellent customer service, you’ll find yourself with an...
Read moreI went with a friend and the place felt modern but not in that cold sterile way, lights soft, chairs comfy, I could sit there for hours honestly. The food, yeah, that was the main thing, I had pasta with truffle, tasted like homemade, rich but not heavy, kind of like when you cook at home but better, I dont even know how to say it. My friend got seafood, it was fresh, cooked right, no weird smell. The waiter, he had this blue shirt I think, explained some dishes like he was in a hurry but still told us about a local wine, actually matched well with the pasta, so that detail stayed in my head. Prices... not cheap, but I mean for center and the quality, felt ok, not like you pay and regret later. I kept looking at a meat dish going to another table, looked so good, maybe next time.
We liked the atmosphere a lot, I already said that but really it was cozy in its way, makes you want to stay longer, and I repeat it because that’s how I felt. Food was really the highlight, again, truffle pasta wow, seafood also very good. Service was nice, not pushy, even if he looked a bit tired, still suggested a wine. Prices not the cheapest, but fair I guess, I didn’t feel cheated. I think I will go back, maybe for meat dishes, I saw one plate and I keep...
