We were really let down by our experience with Hotel Alexandra. Our consistent experience was that they promised a lot but the delivery was very disappointing. ||1. We requested a car to pick us up at the rail station. Their ad showed a really nice luxury limo. I didn't expect to actually get that, but the smoke-filled mini-van that we got was way on the other end of the scale. The driver didn't come inside to meet us so we kept calling the hotel to try and understand where he was parked. Turned out he wasn't parked. He kept circling. It was just a really disappointing experience for what was a pretty hefty fee. A taxi would have been much cheaper and much easier.|2. When we arrived, they were confused we weren't a group of four. Not sure how they determined this as we specifically had e-mailed with them and told them there were two of us. This confusion led to:|3. We had booked a nice suite, but got a room that was devoid of furniture except for three beds (for four people, it seems) and a few uncomfortable table chairs. There was a lot of room, but it was not a nice place to stay. It looked like an attic that they'd had someone's nephew try and convert into a room. It did have a very spacious balcony, but the view was just of rooftops (we had some wonderful city views at other hotels in Naples and Venice).|4. Worst of all, the hotel room clearly had some water damage from the bathroom (see attached pictures). This led to a musty odor that really bothered us. We asked about moving to a smaller room and were told they had nothing. My wife tried asking again on our second day and was told they didn't understand the request the first time. They still said they had nothing to move us to. |5. When we mentioned the problems at check out, the desk clerk got very defensive and said it wasn't her fault and that she tried to tell others, but no one would listen to her.||All in all, we paid a lot of money for a luxury experience and received a very disappointing experience in every direction. Would not recommend staying here. While the location is excellent and the lobby is very nice, nothing else ended up being a good experience. Please look elsewhere for a quality hotel...
Read moreExcellent hotel. Best location, right across the street from Hard Rock, Harry's Bar. Lots of restaurants to walk to. Shops around the corner. Best staff!!!! - especially Joseph at the front desk. He will tell you all you need to know about great restaurants, tours, etc. All the staff was extremely helpful and kind. Really really great breakfast -- Eggs, toast, ham, pastries, cereal, croisants, etc. etc. Nice little liquor store around the block. Great restaurant within walking distance is Vladimiro's--- we went there twice it was so good. Or Gregory's bar - make a reservation if the swing band is playing - it will take you back in time and great bar- lots of fun!. You can walk to the spanish steps, trevi fountain - or just catch the bus (make a right out of the hotel and next right at Piazza Barberini) bus stop is on the second block Take bus 62 straight to the vatican or the colisseum or Roman FOrum. (Colisseum and Roman Forum are free on Sundays!!) and bus runs frequently. You purchase the bus tickets at the tobacco shop. A nice rooftop restaurant to your left is at the HOtel Majestic. Say hello to Renzo when you get there!!! Across the street from Hotel Majestic there is a great little restaurant with live music during the week. If you want to take a day trip - take a cab (10euro) to Termini train station. then catch the train to Orvieto. You can purchase the tickets right at the train station. 1 hour ride. Great shops!!! beautiful restaurants - excellent food. Or you can take the Italo speed train to Naples 1 hour then catch the ferry to Capri and on to Positano. Ok-- enough for now. Hope this helps!!! thank you again HOtel Alexandra for a...
Read moreCons- -Construction work being carried which we were not made aware of. We could not nap during the day because of the noise. But it gets worse, the window was covered in a thick plastic sheet so we could not get any air into the room at all, we also had absolutely zero view out the window and unable to even see the balcony nevermind use it! It made the room a good example of a prison cell. The air conditioning was not working. On the lowest setting it still blew out warm air and made the room uncomfortable at night time even with it off. -Room was a bit small. -There wasn't many plugs outlets in the room. A pair of expensive Tommy hilfiger boxers went missing whilst we where out and the room was being cleaned. They where sitting on top of a t shirt on the bed, we don't know if they were taken or not but they never showed up and we searched the room and bed top to bottom.
Pros -nice shower gel in shower. -location was excellent with only a 10 minute walk to trevi fountain and short walk to metro. -breakfast was adequate. €24 for 3 nights City tax. I don't think we would stay here again as there was absolutely no communication about the renovations going on at the hotel. It was an extreme disappointment to not even be able to look out our window or...
