🇮🇹 how to spend 3 days in Rome👇🏼 We recently visited one of our favorite properties in Rome, @hoteledenrome and managed to see a lot of places within the three days of our stay. Rome like New York, is a city that is full of gems and every time you visit, you’ll add more spots to your list! Day 1: we mainly focused on visiting The Vatican City for half of our day after a glorious breakfast at Hotel Eden. In the afternoon, we visited Trastevere for lunch and finished our night in the rooftop of our hotel called La Tereazza to watch the sunset. Day 2: We woke up to shoot at Trevi Fountain before the crowds and then walked over to her coffee at Antico Cafe Greco, one of the oldest coffee shops in Rome. We spent our afternoon visiting Galleria Doria and then back to the Spanish Steps to enjoy some aperitivo in the area. Day 3: We had late breakfast in our suite and ate late lunch at Giggetto followed by a walk around Villa Borghese which is right next to Hotel Eden, followed by a museum visit and dinner at Emma before heading back to pack our bags! @dorchestercollection #dcmoments . . . #romeitaly #romanempire #roma #visitrome

Mostly came for the experience of trying carciofi alla guidica (Jewish style fried artichoke) and another Roman favorite, bucatini alla'matriciana with extra parmesan. Scenically, the setting is right next to the Porticus Octaviae. It was on my list, but my local friend highly suggested it for these dishes specifically, hence perhaps the differences in reviews. I would say that service varied in how attentive it was, and there were some definite sighs of relaxation when some of the loud tourist tables left (totally understandable)... Speak a little Italian, it goes a long way. As for the food, everything could've been punched up a bit more with salt and seasoning, but the texture of the fried artichoke was nice, and bucatini can do no wrong, it's probably my favorite pasta shape. It was served a bit messily (spots of sauce everywhere) and al dente, but a really good portion size. For the price point, I would say being here in central Rome, it was decent, and it's a decent place to do a bit of people watching too. I paid 30 euros for two dishes and a tiny espresso at the end, June 2024. Yes, this place is wheelchair accessible through most of the in-front seating - there is a back of house seating area, not sure how accessible it is.

We came for the fried artichoke and they were…. Fried artichoke. Pretty good, Tasty, crunchy and full of artichoke flavour😀. The petals are obviously burned and the choke is cooked well. I admit to not being the biggest fan but if you are eating artichoke whole, this works. We also had fried zucchini flower stuffed with mozzarella and anchovies. These were good but not consistent. One had anchovies all the way through but little cheese and the other was the other way round. Either way, really good. I then had the ox tail which was exceptional. Rich, tasty and comfort food personified. The egg plant parmigiana was rich, heavy and cheesy. Smelt and tasted great but really heavy like lasagna. Wine selected by awesome waiter was amazing. Rich, cherry, slightly salty ( from a sea side area) and smooth. Awesome 4/5. Better than expected, interesting menu, sweet breads, lamb brains, tripe and all the usuals and terrific wait staff.

We just walked in and didn't know anything about this restaurant and I'm super glad we did. Usually I look at reviews first and if I did that then I wouldn't have eaten here but it ended up being one of our favourite meals.

The place is big on artichokes and although I usually avoid them they way they do it is pretty good. I still wouldn't eat one by myself but it was enjoyable.

Tip: do the carbonara with the SHORT pasta.... excellent. I had the lamb and our waiter said it's best eaten by using fingers.... so I did. Also excellent. Our waiter was excellent, spoke good English and gave us good tips for spending time in Rome. I wish I remembered his name so I could give him some credit. He helped us make decisions on what to eat and told us to trust him and we did and enjoyed it.

I was expecting something jewish but it's still "roman food" and still typical. If what you'll see elsewhere.

We loved it and it was probably better that we didn't have any expectations, that way we can be more objective. I don't know why the reviews are not better. But I do note that in recent times there's an overwhelming amount of 5 star reviews which is consistent with our experience. In my opinion most of the complaints would either be subjective based on home country based norms or just ignorance. Eg the cover charge was NOT included on the bill (it's common that restaurants force you to pay a tip in the form.of a cover charge) and so we gave him a tip in cash and paid the bill by card. This way we know it goes to him. Some people complain about this.... they're probably the same people who pay 25% tip for virtually no service in America and 20% tip for terrible service. Tipping in Rome directly to the waiter means you don't pay as half much.

And I don't understand any complaint about it being touristy.... makes no sense. It's a touristy city. I can't see how good food is touristy and it's proper good food, like very well home made food. Maybe telling me I can eat with my fingers is touristy, maybe giving tourist advice is touristy, maybe suggesting things on the menu based on working there for years is touristy..... or maybe it's really good service that I liked and others don't.

You...

Vi state perdendo.

I can't consider myself a regular customer; I come 4 or 5 times a year. I've been coming to Gigetto ever since I took my first date out for dinner! I must say I've grown fond of it, what do you think? It has always been a place where even as an Italian, I enjoyed eating.

You're losing your way. If the path you've taken is only about attracting tourists, I respect your choice, but I wanted to let you know I'm sorry! I hope you change your course. I will come back alone, out of affection and to see if it was just a temporary slip-up. back alone, out of affection and to see if it was just a...

Had lunch last Saturday, outside table , good food, very sympathetic waiter, really kind and attemptive. Promissed to return and unfortunatly had an completely awful experience last night with other friends. We had a table in the inside room, the big one. Our waiter acted like the "owner" of the restaurant, treating us with disdain and arrogance when we asked simple explanations aboou dishes - I say simple! not the receip or long conversations (that would be anyway nice, if he just was a kind person). Treated us with arrogance, indifference and rudeness. I am not exagerating. I have been living in Italy for 25 years and know a lot about italians, the are usually so NICE and kind, also FUNNY, but this waiter was visibly ANNOYED with his work and to serve our table. But the cherry above the cake was (he didn't know that I live in Italy for so long...) he presenting the bill and telling my friend, in english, that the TIP should be left in cash (we were paying with credit card). Making my friend understand that tips here are MANDATORY and imbarassing us with such a rude pressure and cynicism. It was incredible! He offered an awful and annoyed service ad pretended tip! This man is not in conditions to serve public. At least, foreigners. I am SURE if we were ITALIANS he would NEVER had acted like this. I know what I am talking about. Congratulations instead for the bold waiter that served us last Saturday, outside table, really GREAT service and alined with this restaurant traditional history and status. PS: 3 stars is the average between 5 stars Saturday's lunch great waiter and zero stars yesterdays night annoyed and arrogant service inside...
