Incredible, a truly Italian experience, no tourists in sight (apart from us!).
Here is a tip for real foodies looking for real Italian food: don't just rely on the 5* reviews, to avoid touristy traps, you need to: Avoid places with queues of tourists outside (like tonarello) Make a reservation Dine where locals dine (easier said then done) I repeat, avoid places filled mostly with tourists
Il Buoni Amici ticks all the boxes. The menu is written in broken english and the waiter only speaks Italian, a clear sign that you will eat fantastic food here ;)
I am happy paying more for good food, but I was amazed by how LOW the prices were, especially given how incredible our food was.
We ordered a bottle of house wine (yum) orechiette with prawns (or crayfish?) - absolutely fantastic, the flavour was so intense seafood risotto - I have never had such incredible risotto in my life linguine with lobster (for frikking 11 euros! so cheap!) - the flavour was beautiful, but I didn't like fighting with the hard shell of the lobster. They generously gave a lot of the lobster, but without proper equipment to get the meat out, I made a bit of a mess. But I have to say the pasta itself was gorgeous, just a little messy to eat.
Then came the tiramisu. It's more like a tiramisu cake than a dessert in a cup, but oh my, it was to die for. Such great balance of flavours, creamy, perfectly put together.
Overall, what a fantastic, authentic experience. Dining in Trastevere with the tourists would never get you such food, such flavours and such an atmosphere. 100% worth the trip to the other...
Read moreI can not understand why a restaurant with such good and kind waitors and waitresses have such terrible food and politics regarding hygiene. Anytime you order a plate in which you can add extra ground cheese, they bring you a plate full of ground cheese. This looks like a nice gesture in general until you realize that this plate of ground cheese is literally traveling from table to table of different costumers until it is empty. Ours came from the next table right in front of our eyes.. So basically, everybody is sharing at least some plate of cheese that was used by some other table.
We ordered the fagotini and the amatreciana. My wife threw up the fagotini at home, and my amatreciana gave me a stomach ache. This must have been the worst amatreciana i have ever eaten in Roma, and I have lived here for almost a year. The tomato sauce was questionable, and the guanciale was practically raw.
Avoid the place if you want to not effectively share your food with everyone and not get food poisoning. Another minus is the fact that they only have one, very dirty, unisex toilet.
Again, I am sorry for this terrible review because the workers there were very...
Read moreLet me say, this is the best restaurant in san Giovanni in Laterno, Rome!!! Fabrizio treated us like Buoni Amicis. The experience was so nice we went thrice! First, we went during lunch. I had the instalata de pulipo. It was soft but with texture. The pulipo was fresh, and you can taste the pulipo. All the seafood is fresh! Then I ordered the Spaghetti alla pescatora, which was phenomenal!!! My wife ordered the Ravoloni Provorla e Carciofi Burro e Salvia, amazing!!! The second night we came for desert, milhojas with meringue and a natal cheesecake. Soooo goooddd!!!! Third night, I ordered Grigliata Mista, Zuppa de Verdura, and Bistec al la Ferrari. ALL EXCELLENT AND THE STEAK COOKED AS ORDERED, medium rare. The wife ordered Spaghetti alla Carbonara and Caprese salad, WONDERFUL! THIS IS A MUST TRY. WE ARE COMING BACK A FOURTH AND FIFTH NIGHT, FABRIZIO IS EXPECTING ME. We'll also come back when we come back in a couple of years!!! Thank you Buoni Amici Roma!!!
P.S. I'm Mexican so I need chile. I brought my own, Tapatio and El Yucatero XXX picante habanero. Bring...
