09/2020 After a long day spent walking around Rome, my best friend and I were super hungry, but we didn't want to stop at a very touristic restaurant. That's when, out of nowhere, we just stumbled across Il Bacaro.
The beautiful outdoor setting and the menu first caught my eyes. The list was not too long, usually a synonym for good food, but with enough choice for everyone to find their delight. The prices seemed reasonable, and I could only hear Italian speakers around. No one was trying to lure us in as if we were some two-legged wallets either. No need for booking told us the waitress, so we went to get a small aperitivo in a lovely bar not too far on plazza copelle, then came back to be seated inside by Veronica. She was a gem and went above and beyond to make our stay as best as possible, and I have to admit that it was one of my most amazing diner experience ever.
She switched to a perfect French when she realised that we were from France, and gave us great wine advice. Then, we ordered an antipasti to share (the calamari, excellent, it was cooked to perfection and served with white bean purée), two different kind of pastas (my friend asked to have them with a different sauce and the kitchen was totally fine to do it), raviolis with the most tender beef and arrabiata sauce, and a delightful truffle carbonara, and brought us a bottle of olive oil and two small bowls with a little sample of each other's pastas to taste. This was an unexpected surprise, and it was absolutely lovely. Then we ordered the chocolate cake, and they offered us some digestivo (we really love this custom!).
Everything was perfect, we had an incredible time, the prices were totally correct regarding the amount and the quality of the food (we were so full after!), the subtle jazz music and candle lights were the nice finishing touch of an incredible evening. We had a great chat with Veronica who gave us some advice on the city, and we promised to come back but didn't get the chance, so sorry! But we'll be back, it's a promise :-) Thanks...
Read moreIl Bacaro is a hidden gem in the heart of Rome, located just a short walk from the Spanish Steps. This traditional osteria offers a relaxed and inviting atmosphere, with both indoor and outdoor seating. The menu features imaginative seasonal dishes, all made with fresh, high-quality ingredients.
One of the things that sets Il Bacaro apart is its focus on authentic Roman cuisine. From classic dishes like carbonara and cacio e pepe. The pasta dishes are particularly noteworthy, with perfectly al dente noodles and flavorful sauces.
As regards the staff, we found out that it is a father and son run family business. When we asked about how they prepare the funghi porcini we noticed how knowledgeable the waiter was. The question, are they good? He replied, definitely because I am preparing your meal. Tbe staff, in this case the son, was happy to help and choose the perfect wine to pair with your meal.
Overall, Il Bacaro is an excellent choice for a delicious and authentic Italian meal. The food is superb funghi porcini and the white truffle pasta were top notch, and the service is friendly and attentive. I highly recommend Il Bacaro to anyone looking for a special dining experience in a cosy small place in Rome.
Here are some specific dishes that I recommend:
Funghi porcini If they are available. They are made in the pan with simple ingredients like olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper, basta.
White truffle pasta, delicious
Tiramisu Il Bacaro's tiramisu is a must-try dessert. It is made with ladyfingers dipped in espresso and layered with a frozen creamy mascarpone filling. You eat it with your fingers.
Overall, I highly recommend Il Bacaro to anyone looking for a delicious and authentic Italian...
Read moreA very nice restaurant with polite and friendly staff. We saw this restaurant down the side road, it was warmly lit and seemed interesting so ventured down.
My wife and I were seated quickly in the restaurant, it was quite early for eating in Italy and we were the first people here. We weren't rushed and took our time. By the end is the evening there were maybe 5 others.
The food was excellent with quick service and great advice on which wine would best suit the food. Wine is a speciality here and served by the glass and the bottle. It was obviously a place that was centred on the food and the wine. The simple starters of meat and cheese were excellent and accompanied with honey and a warm mushroom based mix which really enhanced it while not being a distraction. My pasta was great, obviously fresh and well seasoned. No coffee in the restaurant. The desserts were typical and all sounded nice. The tiramisu was a large proportion of cream but had the essential sponge and coffee liquor and was thoroughly enjoyed so no complaints!
It sits probably 15 at most, I would absolutely recommend the restaurant and if you're keen then maybe make a reservation or come early.
As the light dies outside the candles are lit which provides for a somewhat cosy atmosphere. The coperto was clearly displayed on the menu and not a burden or a surprise which is all you can ask for. The cost of the evening was well balanced against the food and wine enjoyed.
My thanks for a very...
