Il Bar Sotto Il mare — Restaurant in Rome

Excellent seafood restaurant. Very good service. I'm not sure they had any options other than seafood, this place really specializes. I saw a lot of clams and scampi (whole in the shell) being served to tables around me. To start I had the Ravioli al branzino con mazzancolle, radicchio e crema di latte (Ravioli stuff with bass, and shrimp and radicchio cream sauce) which was great. For my next course I had the Pesce spada alla siciliana (Sicilian Swordfish) which was a good-sized portion of Swordfish with whole black olives, giant capers and lemon sauce. I used the bread to finish the sauces for both dishes. They have a great white wine selection, but only bottles. And I know this goes with fish but I'm really a red-wine guy, and they only had a few bottles to choose from. I got a Shiraz in the 375ml bottle which was pretty good. We ate lunch here on a Wednesday late November. We were looking for the porchetta sandwich shop nearby but they were closed for some reason. It was 11:30 AM and Il Bar Sotto il Mare just opened nearby and they could take us without a reservation, something that is unusual for good restaurants in Rome. The young woman who greeted us and took our order was incredibly nice and helpful. She spoke fluent English when we exhausted our limited Italian. She explained to us what chicory (chicoria) was and how it was cooked when we saw men at a nearby table eating plates of dark vegetables with gusto. The seafood we had, tiny clams and canoce (Mantis shrimp) tasted amazing and very fresh. My pasta with caccia e pepe and artichokes was perfect. We got very terrible experience out there, just because end of the day internet doesn’t work and we can’t pay credit card.Of course we have not enough cash with us and it became worse than we thought. We spent 1 hour to figure out how we can pay. Owner doesn’t care at all and he don’t speak English at all, other people “ helpers “ speak English but a little bit. So they doesn’t try to resolve our issue at all, until we asked them what can be resolution for that. So, in general they don’t care about customers, they said why you are don’t have cash,?( why I have to keep cash in our time?).I don’t have any word’s at all, just bad experience with them!I can say much more, but they took all my energy out there!!!
