(Type of service Made me feel like lower class.)I’ve had a similar experience with a lady who commented two months ago. My husband and I made reservations in advance. Even though we were right at the colosseum We still made the effort to go back home to change into elegant attire and made sure to arrive on time in order to give this experience and the restaurant the proper respect it deserves. when we had arrived we were told to wait in order to not disturb the show before we are able to receive our table. Understandably, we waited and marveled at the interior beauty, elegance and performance. We had thought that we surely made the right decision. Soon enough we were severely disappointed. There were plenty of tables next to the big parties that were empty. I had reasoned with myself that they must be reserved for that time frame. We were sat at a corner next to the kitchen away from the show. Where we could hardly see the singers and they would not come around to every table to make it enjoyable for all. They even had a special moment of the lights being lowered during the show while ours were not, making a stark contrast between the quality of service we were getting. Carts of dishes being hauled in front of us and also being located at the backstage of performers hiding behind the wall getting ready to do their grand intro. The parties eventually left and a new one was coming in. By the end of our meal we were told that there are no more desserts available. I came to find out, it’s because they saved it for the new parties who just came instead. He told us he would give slices of melons to go (because we no longer wanted to be there) and instead took 20 minutes setting the parties tables, taking their orders, bringing out their wine, and even their meals. Doing this all while in front of us. Finally he said to give him one minute to bring it out. I was not surprised to find that instead, he chose to serve more meals to another table. We had enough so we decided to forget the melons, leading us to ask one of his coworkers for the check. We paid and on our way out we noticed that some of the tables were empty the whole time and were just now getting filled for the new reservations coming in. We were excluded from everything for no valid reason. During the whole time when I saw unequal treatment I noticed that the reason why these tourists big parties were receiving the best is because the restaurant must have some sort of deal with their tour guided trip. Where if the tour guide has them eat there, then the restaurant and the tour guide both gain from it. (I respect the business hustle) And when I looked at the reviews online to see if I was the only one, surly enough this lady from two months ago had confirmed that yes she found out that her poor experience was due to the “tourist voucher’s” Which isn’t an unusual thing to do, But it doesn’t excuse our mis-treatment. And to just think that since this was our last night in Italy, we did not mind to spend the rest of our euros for a top notch experience. We didn’t want to convert it back to our currency because it would just be wasting more money on exchangment fees, second, we weren’t sure if the next time we came to Italy if the euro would be the same since it had plummeted down significantly and third we didn’t want to spend it on luxury items that we could of gotten back at home. We planned to spend thousands for what we came here for, an authentic Italian experience. We would have generously tipped our waiter, the host, the performers and even the ones cleaning up. We even wanted to buy their music cds and their signatures. But even that wasn’t offered to us especially since the performers didn’t bat an eye to us. Thus leading to my point. The quality of service made us feel like we were the outcasts who couldn’t pay for the full packaged experience. The whole purpose of my husband and I dining here was to have the performance as says so. That is what we paid for like everyone els. Other wise we wouldn’t have came. It was more for the...
Read moreGroup meal with our tour. First couple courses started off great, then the main course and dessert were shockingly low quality. Chicken thigh and leg with potato wedges and a salad. Rotisserie chicken and potato wedges dinner special from our Albertsons grocery store deli back home are much better. This chicken was dry, and not much flavor. Didn't know this was possible with dark meat. Salad was similar to a bag salad you would also buy from a grocery store back in the states, or have from a food service at a school. Our table couldn't believe it. Then the dessert was mediocre to follow. Staff were great, and the location down an alley way from the Colosseum make for a great stroll after dinner to see the Colosseum. We had local singers performing for our group. They were fun to experience, but audio managed by the restaurant staff (appears to be something they may do for tour groups) was a bit on the loud side (this coming from a musician who plays weekly at my church and knows all too well of folks complaining about sound levels, but it did seem loud), and they were going table to table in our group afterwards attempting to sell each of us their CD for €10. Personally, the whole experience felt like the restaurant was attempting to give us a performance of what they thought American tourists would expect an evening in Rome to be. But it fell so short. Please, focus on the meal, less on the facade. Be genuine. I know you're trying to make money off of tourism, but this felt like that was your only goal, with food and interaction with guests a great distance behind. I know there are great restaurants with incredible meals in town, because we have been to a couple while in Rome. But this felt like a tourist trap. Very sad to say, and sadder to experience, but it is...
Read moreThe food was absolutely terrible cafeteria quality at best. Great value though as the show, atmosphere and price of $45 euro each came with a bottle of wine each! The singers are amazing and I would go back for the show but not get their set menu as the appetizers were gross, they keep it in a hot box, a sort of storage unit for catering and to keep food items warm in huge pre plated quantities, from where we were seated we could see the hot box filled with easily 100 portions ready to go. When I asked the manager what the gray blob was they was next to the eggplant parmigiana and cold overheard fried cheese he said we had to guess and if we got it right he would give us a free bottle of champagne… it tasted like cream of mushroom soup that had been put into a small ramekin and baked until a jello consistency… when we were asked a what we thought it was the manager said it was red cabbage and white sauce. The pasta was ok it was a ravioli in white cream sauce with some kind of red sauced rigatoni that supposedly had mixed vegetables.. the most flavorless thing was the main course that was supposedly veal, it tasted so bland it could have been any meat thinly sliced… the salad was fine and the potatoes were ok. For dessert they served a soggy slice of tiramisu that only tasted like chocolate and mush. I don’t like tiramisu in general so it was probably fine. The value was good for the quantity but the quality was awful. The manager was very nice but the staff seemed haggered and overworked. There were many Italians celebrating birthdays in big groups. So I think the attraction is cheap booze great comedy and singing with...
