I know the great reputation that Ma che has and as a beer lover I can't be too critical as it's one of only 2 good beer bars in that area.
That said it's pretty disappointing that they have no alcohol free alternatives. Pregnant people exist. Non drinkers exist. Drivers exist. I understand it's a beer bar but it is 2024 and it just shows a lack of willingness or interest in anyone who doesn't want to drink beer/alchol.
For my tastes the beer list is too heavily waited towards sours/fruited beers. Of 16 taps I think there were two sours, a cider, 2 fruit beers...even one of the ipa was mango based. No Neipa either which is disappointing.
The downstairs room seems recently renovated but some of the chairs are quite frankly horrible and peeling. Just looks very grubby.
A side issue...I live in Rome for 10 years. I look like a tourist so I get that they speak to me in English despite me speaking to them in Italian. Even when I replied in Italian, the lady on the till continued to reply to me in English which is a bit odd.
Edit: Appreciate the reply! And I appreciate Neipa isn't that popular here much to my chagrin! There are some great non alcholic craft "beers" that I think you could add to your fridge without jeopardising your reputation or...
Read moreAs a traveler, I always try to support local businesses and enjoy authentic experiences, but this place was an absolute disappointment. The staff was rude, unwelcoming, and made it very clear that tourists are not appreciated here. We were ignored for a long time, and when we finally got service, it was with attitude and zero courtesy.
The beer might be decent (if you ever get to order it), but the overall experience was ruined by the way we were treated. If you’re a visitor looking to enjoy good local beer with friendly service, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. This place clearly doesn’t value or respect tourists. “The girl with black hair“ should be...
Read more(June 2008) Don’t know what I can add to the other reviews other than to confirm that this bar is world class and competes easily with the leading bars of Amsterdam and Belgium. Tiny it may be but it does not lack for character or range. Apart from many Italian micros there’s plenty of Cantillon (inc tap), Drie Fonteinen, Yeti, Mikkeller, etc etc. All up 12 taps plus 50+ bottles. Taps in May 2008 inc Struise Pannepot, Saison Du Pont, Cantillon Iris 2003, Olfabrikken RIS. Great service very knowledgable and friendly (refer Birre & Fud review). To flog a dead horse it would be criminal to visit Rome and not have...
