Alle Carrette in Rome is a true hidden gem, and it’s all about the pizza. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by a bustling, authentic Roman atmosphere, filled with locals enjoying their meals; always a good sign! If you’re a pizza lover, this place will leave you in awe.
The pizza here is nothing short of excellent. The thin crust is crisped to golden perfection, with a satisfying crunch that holds up to the toppings without ever being too brittle. The base is light and charred slightly charred, giving it that iconic Roman pizza bite. We were blown away by the freshness of the ingredients—they really let the simplicity of the toppings shine, with every bite bursting with flavor. Whether you’re a fan of classic Margherita or something more adventurous, this pizza is hard to beat.
While the pizza stole the show, the pastas at Alle Carrette were equally impressive. The lasagna was a comforting masterpiece, with rich, savory layers that melted in your mouth. The cannelloni was also delicious, with the perfect balance of cheesy filling and savory sauce, a true taste of home cooked Italian goodness.
For dessert, the tiramisu was a sweet ending to an incredible meal; light, fluffy, and just the right amount of sweetness.
The service was welcoming and attentive, and we loved the fact that on both visits, we were the only tourists among the locals, which made the experience feel even more authentic. Alle Carrette truly delivers a memorable dining experience, where the focus is on quality ingredients, simple yet bold flavors, and a cozy, inviting vibe. Don’t miss it when...
Read moreDelicious pizza. This is the place that doesn't have annoying waiters waving at you to visit and that's why we chose to sit there. After tasting the pizzas, the olives, the appetizers and the home wines we decided to come back two days later (and we only stayed in Rome 4 days). Do expect a wonderful pizza experience, especially the prosciutto with artichokes, a pizza to die for! Since it's a proper pizzeria do not expect many pasta choices, there are three classics ant that's it. I loved the menu, it splits pizzas into white and tomato based sauces, something that spoilt me so I was looking for such an approach in other places with little success. A huge benefit: it's really close to the Colosseum yet with no direct view on the monument, the place is less "touristy" which makes it all tat batter of a choice. The photo should give you a glimpse of the atmosphere, it's a small dead end street, quiet and actually letting you feel the familiar Italy you're used to seeing in all those romantic comedies. A must visit if you're on a date ;) The prices are very reasonable too. This is literally a perfect place to...
Read moreAfter the Colosseum we looked for some place for a quick lunch before continuing our city exploration. We found this lovely place hidden in an alley and decided to give it a try. Chose the table in the center so we would be easily visible to be serviced. Waiter completely ignored us for the first 10 minutes. I saw that he was busy and I didn’t pay attention, although we were hungry and thirsty on a hot day, so I grabbed the menus by myself. After that we waited for 10 more minutes to be asked if we want to order and got an apology for waiting. The food came fast and was DELICIOUS! After that we waited for 10 more minutes to order some coffee and another 10 minutes for a check. I understand that the waiters are busy, but it’s rude to ignore customers and make them wait for everything. Hire more waiters if you can’t catch with the orders. I also noticed that when a group of 8 Italians came they were serviced very quickly and that got me very angry. I generally tip very generously, but I left them only 1 euro, although I think they didn’t...
