We ordered our food and were surprised not to be offered any bread, and I could see that other tables had been offered it. Seeing as we were happy to go without, we didn’t mind and we were not expecting to be billed for it. When our bill came, we had a 3 euro ‘coperto’ charge per person. This is standard practice in Italy; however, you are usually provided with bread, olive oil, etc. as part of this ‘service charge.’ When the bill came, I asked the staff why the coperto was still on my bill and was told this was a charge for providing the service, including bread, etc. When I pointed out that this was not provided, the waitress called over another member of staff who proceeded to tell me it was not an item but a charge for ‘providing a service, but it was not a tip’. I’ve travelled to Italy frequently over the last 15 years or so and fully understand what is included in ‘Coperto,’ but the staff dismissed my complaint. I have no problem with paying for ‘coperto,’ but this was essentially a charge for sitting down. My food was okay; my partner ordered a pasta dish which was quite a small portion. Wouldn’t visit again after the staff completely dismissed the challenge to my bill.
Earlier that day, only a few streets down, we visited a different restaurant but only stopped for a drink. We were offered bread but told them we didn’t plan to eat. They took the bread away and only charged us for the two drinks that we had. So it’s clear that other restaurants don’t follow the same practice. Go...
Read moreThis is a restaurant connected with a wine store! And compared to the other little wine/ liquor shops, the prices and selection in the store are great so save time to grab a bottle for after dinner!
As far as dinner, we were greeted by a friendly hostess and seated inside right away. We got quick and friendly service and again, the wine prices on the menu were unbelievable!
The service was casual. We have noticed that there are two kinds of service in restaurants in this area. 1) Full service/attentive where they pour the wine for you and check in frequently, and 2) “call us if you need us” service where you take care of yourself after you get your food, and flag down a waiter when you need them. Not criticizing the second kind, just pointing it out since it’s important to make sure you find the kind of place you want. This was the second kind, which was fine with us that night. We have enjoyed both kinds of places on this trip. Here, you pay for your food in the wine shop.
My husband had pesto tortellini and I had carbonara. They were out of salad at the time we got there, a little before 8. The only reason I don’t give this place 5 stars is the pasta sauce for me was not very flavorful and the dish seemed dry, (but the bacon was very tasty) and my husband’s tortellini had too much pasta vs. Sauce/filling.
We would definitely recommend it. And don’t forget to pick...
Read moreThis is a wine store with an adjoining restaurant. The restaurant has I door seating as well as cramped sidewalk seating. We stopped there for a quick pre-dinner snack around 6:30 pm. The server was quick to provide a joint table and menu and disappeared. Was not eSy to get his attention again.... We ordered drinks and 2 smacks (€6 and 7). There was not a server to be seen when we wanted to leave, and after an extended wait, I went inside and told him that I wanted to pay. He responded that I was table 7, so I went back assuming g that he would be over with the bill. After another wait, I had to go looking for him again, and only then he explained that I had to go to the cashier inside and advise of my table # to get the bill and pay. To my surprise and disappointment, there was a €6cover charge, although I was not aware of it, and absolutely NOTHING was provided (no bread, etc). This seat charge was not called for. A very...
