From the moment you step inside, you're enveloped in a warm and bustling atmosphere that speaks volumes about its authenticity. What truly stands out at Trattoria della Stampa is the food. Each dish possesses its own unique charm and an explosion of genuine Roman flavors. You can taste the tradition and the quality of the ingredients in every bite. It's the kind of food that feels like it's been lovingly prepared according to time-honored family recipes. Beyond the incredible food, the service at Trattoria della Stampa is top-notch. The staff are friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about sharing their culinary heritage with their guests. They make you feel welcome and are always ready with recommendations or a cheerful word. It's true that the seating can be a little cozy, with tables situated close together. However, this only adds to the vibrant and convivial atmosphere of the trattoria. It's part of the charm and contributes to the feeling of being in a truly authentic Roman eatery. You might overhear snippets of lively conversations and the clinking of glasses, all adding to the overall experience. In conclusion, Trattoria della Stampa is more that just a restaurant; it's an immersion into the heart of Roman cuisine and culture. If you're seeking a genuine taste of Rome, exceptional food, and warm hospitality, this is the place to be. Don't let the close seating deter you – it's a small price to pay for such a rewarding and delicious experience. I can't...
Read moreWe were served cold food twice.
We ordered eggplant parmagiana, roman meatballs, carbonara, and tiramisu. The eggplant parmagiana was served still cold in some parts, but our server took it and replaced it. He was apologetic and said that that kitchen was crazy (the place was packed. To our surprise, one of our main course, the meatballs, was served even colder! I asked our server to touch the meatball just so they know that we were not exaggerating. It was still hard and cold inside. Again, he was apologetic and told the kitchen that it was actually cold. They replaced it again, but at that point, we were already feeling weird as to how the kitchen would actually bring out 2 dishes cold, and have a very high rating here.
The food was ok, but nothing really amazing. The fact that the restaurant was so hot inside made the dinning experience a bit less enjoyable.
What irked us most was when the guy from the kitchen served our tiramisu and said in Italian that it’s supposed to be cold, but then we didn’t answer, so he called the lady who took the reservations to have her translate what he said to us. It felt like he was mocking us for sending back the starter and the main course. So we answered that we know! 🙄
Yes, we know that the tiramisu is not supposed to be hot, but both dishes you served were supposed to be. 🙄
Our server (the younger brunette guy), the reservation taker (lady), and the other lady servers were great and attentive. Which is why I gave service a 4/5.
Overall, not worth lining up for. The food was just ok, but the heat inside and the annoying incident made it such an underwhelming experience. Would rather eat...
Read moreI’m not sure about some of the negative reviews of this restaurant. The food (basil salad, tagliatelle with porcini, aubergine and zucchini, fresh fig dessert) was all very tasty and well prepared. The pasta was perfectly cooked al denté.
The staff was friendly to us and to everyone else dining. Just for reference to some reviews suggesting racism, while we were there a family of non-Italian, non-American, non-Caucasien folks came in without a reservation. They came in and were told they should have enough time to dine before an incoming reservation (I heard all this because it was happening literally in front of my table). Tables were put together and they were treated as warmly as anyone else, reservation or not, regardless of who they were or where they came from. I point this out only as an observation during my time in the restaurant.
This is a small, family run place. Are the tables close together? Yes. Should you be surprised by that in a small restaurant in the middle of Rome? I hope not. Are the servers scrambling between the inside and outside tables? Sure, that should be no surprise either, but it was easy enough to get help with just a look or a request. I treated everyone there who helped us with respect, and was treated kindly in return. The young bearded gentleman who was our main server was even kind enough to pretend to be surprised when I paid with a U.S. credit card, since I had been talking to them all in my poor Italian, being a descendant.
I felt like this was a nice place. Is it Cantinetta Antinori in Firenze? No, and it’s not trying to be. But for me it rates five stars for the kind of...
