On a little street, near Fontana di Trevi lies a small place that really deserves a visit if you are looking for something to eat. I ate a couple of times in this place in the evening enjoying both cold starters and cooked meals. The pork sandwich is awesome and the cold plate for two is ok (two people can eat from it so its size is good and considering its price it is a real bargain). Cooked meals tend to be limited so if you arrive late and look on the board you might see many of them cut off the list. The lasagna is very good but the vegetable soup is more like a stew (I enjoyed it but the dish is more stew than soup) so keep that in mind if you want to order it. The place is very small(3,4 tables) and has a few extra “bar” places where you can enjoy your meals on high stools while the glasses of wine hang from the wall on special wooden clips. The white wine of the house was very good and it goes perfectly with the cheeses mix or the cold plate starters. The staff is very nice and it will help you with your orders or explain some things from the menu but this is not the kind of place where you will receive a table service. You pick your food, take the tray to an empty seat and enjoy it there. And at the end it would be nice to take your tray back to the counter where you will pay for your food. Even though the place is very small there are plenty of meats and cheeses from which to choose from alongside vegetables and other dishes. Given the fact that I turned 2 more times to eat I can recommend this place with an open heart. One of the main advantages of this place besides the food and the staff is the fact that you don’t have to sell a kidney to enjoy a decent meal in here. Prices are very ok and they are totally worth it. As with other restaurants/bars tried in Rome this was also a suggestion by a local so if ever in Rome you could spend some time here before or after admiring Fontana di Trevi at night. Prosciutteria Trevi’s address is Via della Panetteria 34A and here you can check...

Once inside, you order from the counter on one side and there are several shelf-like tables where patrons can eat standing. In the very back, there are really only a couple of tables where you can have a sit-down meal.
Several signs on the restaurant state that they do not have a restaurant license, so I suppose this is actually a take out venue that happens to have a handful of tables, so you can eat on premise. There are various cured meats hanging from the ceiling, with some attachments that catch the meat drippings.
Mr. Joy and I shared a small mixed board, with mushroom spread, cilantro spread, sundried tomatoes, cured meat, and a chilled bottle of prosecco. We stood over one of the shelf-like tables. Good thing there are wine glass holders attached to the walls, because there is no space on the table for drinks.
The mushroom spread on crostini was very smooth, with a nutty and buttery flavor. The cilantro spread had a consistency like pesto, but just with a slightly more herbaceous flavor. The prosciutto, salami, and mortadella were very tasty, and combiend make a nice mini sandwich. What stood out most to me was the sundried tomatoes. Such light flavor, sweet and slightly acidic, with a bit of a fibrous texture.
Though crowded, this is a nice place to relax and share some small bites and sandwiches over drinks. The small board and prosecco came out to about 15 euros, which is a pretty good value to me! Considering how tight the space is, definitely try to come at off peak times, or...

We went there as our anniversary dinner, and it was the BEST decision we made in our life. First things first, it is NOT a restaurant. They do not have a license to be a restaurant, so this is how it works. You grab a table as soon as one opens up, they don't/can't take reservations. Then you go up to the counter and order. This way, they are a deli, and are not considered a restaurant!
We went at 9:00 and it was packed, so we went for a walk to the Trevi Fountain and Spanish steps to pass some time, hoping it would die down later. We came back at 10:30, and it was still packed. LUCKILY, a couple was leaving the only outdoor table they have, and we snagged it! Good thing too, as it is the BEST table in the house. My hubby went in and got us a glass of wine, pointed at the nearest huge tray he saw and said, "Give me that."
Worked out great, we got it within 10-12 minutes, it was so quick. And everything on it was SOOOOoooo amazingly delicious!
One of my FAVE meals in...
