One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. My mother and I visited during our trip to Rome. We ordered the onion tart, spaghetti with squid ink sauce, meatballs, latte cotto, and tiramisú. The cheese and salad complimented the sweetness of the onion tart wonderfully and the squid ink special was incredible. The pasta was a perfect al dente and not too hard or soft. The meatballs were a great texture and not heavy at all. The latte cotto was soft and delicate and went well with the tiramisú, which was one of the best tiramisus I’ve ever had, boasting a lovely harmony between the gentle sweetness of the cream and bitterness of the coffee/rum. The sourdough bread was also so a highlight for us, with a fragrant yet subtle tang. Not only was the food delicious, but the service was amazing. Our servers were so kind and even offered to call us a taxi following our meal so we didn’t have to struggle communicating with the operator. My mother lost her phone that night and we called the restaurant multiple times to check. The staff were gracious and empathetic, giving us tips for calling the taxi company and never showing frustration. Truly an amazing team at Trattoria Pennestri. Grazie mille.

One of the best meals I’ve ever had in Rome! Fresh, quality ingredients married together with intelligence and warmth, all inspired - but not limited - by Italian tradition. You start with fresh bread and sun dried tomatoes with mint - a bite of summer in Italy. We then had delicious cod and potato croquettes and a divine watermelon and tomato salad (such a great combination - who’d have thought?). The pastas were equally yummy - the whole wheat pici alla gricia was elevated by punchy mint, and homemade tagliatelle was served with sheep’s milk cheese and aubergines. The main was a special - red mullet with peppers and capers. It was unique and delicious and impossibly fresh, and a great segue to dessert - a perfect chocolate mouse, with sea salt, olive oil, and crispy Sardinian bread. I also had a beautiful rosé from Campagna that paired well with the meal, and we were served complimentary amaro liqueur at the end. Service was friendly and helpful though a bit slow - our pastas took a very long time to come out. I’d recommend booking in advance because the place fills up easily, especially on weekends!

We finally managed to book a table in this traditional Roman restaurant! So of you want to eat here i would suggest you to book well ahead of time. The place Is located in the Testaccio quarter, near Piramide, where the Roman night Life Is rising steadly. I loved the ambient, resembling and antique house, with wooden furniture and nice paintings on the walls. They have tables both insider and outside, but with 30 degree Celsius outside we choose to go inside with air conditioning. As you can see from the menu in the picture the choice is among traditional Roman dishes, some are quite hard to find elsewhere, like the fried liver and kidney, with sage and a Mayo on top. Super good! Then we got the watermelon, tomato and bread crumbs, with a goat cheese on top, Amazing, probably the best dish. As a First course, which we have to say we waited for good 40 minutes, we had a pasta with chicken liver and It was incredibile, I would Say worth the wait. I can Just reccomend trattoria pennestri, prices were affordable and food great, only flaw Is the long waiting time between courses.
