One of the few places that specify where their beef comes from. Since my family were looking for an authentic bistecca with chianina beef, we chose Sotto Le Fonti for our dinner. We reserved a table by whatsapp which they were very responsive. The atmosphere is very warm and homely filled with laughter and chatter from friendly locals. The lady owner is so welcoming of guests. She makes sure to accomodate customers as best as she can. She even showed us her favorite spot where the sunset light hits only the castle which creates an interesting landscape. She understands english and we had no trouble communicating. We ordered the ravioli, a bistecca alla fiorentina with chianina beef and she even kindly took our request to have pici pasta with their pesto sauce. We ended our meal with their limoncello tiramisu which was very light and a perfect way to end a heavy meal. Everything was so delicous and it really hit the spot for us. Read moreYou know those meals where everyone at the table can’t help smiling because the food is so good? This was one of those meals. From start to finish, every…single….bite was spectacular. Roberto is an absolute master with flavors and cooks meat to tender perfection.
We were 7, and couldn’t help but share every dish at the table. They were ALL delicious. The cacio e pepe easily rivaled the best of Rome. The pork was an incredibly tender cut with a sweetness that complimented without overpowering. The steak was caramelized perfectly. The cinghiale with chocolate was a brilliant surprise. What a genius combination of subtle flavors. For dessert, the apple cake and tiramisu were equally dreamy. Eat here and bring friends so you can taste everything! :)
Grazie and danke to Britta and Roberto!!! Your hospitality and warmth will not be...

It was my first experience of this section of Siena and worth the modest walk outside the usual, tourist heavy Center. The staff was great, with the owner/operator husband and wife personally attending tables and cooking the food, the ambiance local and low key, food reasonably priced and delicious. The steak was very well cooked and seasoned, side dishes well matched and, as expected of Tuscany, the wine was fantastic and affordable. Most importantly, I left full, content and delighted I happened to stumble on Le Fonti amidst the ocean of...
