Ceramiche Bianco e Nero — Local services in Siena

Beautiful hand painted ceramics. We found this shop near the top of the steep road leading to the Siena duomo. Their work is gorgeous and reasonably priced. We purchased several items (a coffee cup, small bowl and tile for a trivet.) We also chatted with the friendly owners - a daughter and father and watched as he painted some mugs.

As for their sign, it means that their items are HAND painted in Siena, not mass produced in a factory in China (as are so many souvenirs in Italy). It is not a slur against Chinese tourists & they do not deserve the low rating from one overly sensitive Chinese tourist who evidently did not understand the meaning of the sign.

As a tourist who appreciates Italian ceramics, I was genuinely interested in Siena's traditional craftsmanship. However, the sign at the shop entrance made me hesitate about supporting this business. In today's globalized market, many countries—including China—produce high-quality ceramics, and true artistic value shouldn't rely on disparaging others to prove itself.
