Bar Kontatto — Restaurant in Sorrento

Second day in Sorrento and second visit to Konttato Restaurant & Snack Bar. Both visits were good. On the first visit we ordered the fish and chips plate. One huge piece of cod along with perfectly fried chips. The next visit was for breakfast. The ‘English Breakfast’ plate was a good portion and delicious. The cappuccino was actually hot, a pleasant surprise. The staff is friendly but preoccupied with personal conversations. They rarely check on tables. Observed several patrons giving up and approaching the cashier for help. They loose a star for consistent service. We have noticed this service characteristic at many establishments during our visit in Italy. It may be a cultural but Stateside customers are accustomed to ‘better’ or more attentive service. I wish Google would give us a half star option as this place deserves a great rating overall. It’s right on the main drag just a short walk west from the train station on the south side of the road. Honestly one of the worst hugo’s and hamburgers I ever had…and the manager is completely unprofessional - the hugo had the taste of lime cordial and I asked for not much ice and it was filled with ice, the burger was tasteless and dry and the chips were so pale in colour and had hardly been cooked. When my friend arrived she asked one of the staff (manager) if she could order and the attitude was so bad he just walked away without asking one of his staff to come take the order - then came over to explain that as a manager he cannot take orders as he needs to be free to basically do what I am not sure - I have more than 20 years of experience in hospitality and the role of the manager is always to step in where the staff are struggling!! I am not a tourist to this town as I live here and so does my friend and I for one will never enter this...

Arrived and asked for a table for 2.the man on the door looked incredulous that we wanted to eat as well as drink. He said we had to sit outside because there was nowhere inside,.... Despite there being many tables inside that were empty. Wecsaw the menu that looked amazing. I was so excited at what they offered . We waited 10 mins and no one had offered us a drink. The table of 4 next to us looked soooo upset and bored. Theyd clearly been there absolutely ages with no offerings of anything. Eventually they got up and walked to the restaurant just next door. We had such a long day and were so hungry, we decided we weren't prepared for this to happen to us so we also got up and went. We walked down the road to the golden river pub where we had the MOST...
