We ventured to Sorrento today, a welcomed break from the hustle and bustle of Napoli. Having eaten much pasta and pizza we fancied something different so the Star Bar Holy Burger had decent reviews and offered some options for the vegetarian. She'd really hankered for a veggie burger after being bitterly disappointed by Burger King Italy's denial that their veggie patty even exists. It was early, just past 12pm, so was quiet and we were able to choose where we sat. We ordered a Mojito and Long Island Iced Tea and a burger each which didn't come with fries so we ordered some to share as well as a side of onion rings. The cocktails were average at best, nothing to write home about (we long for the memories of these drinks shared as the sun went down on a rooftop bar in Rome) but at €7 we probably had higher expectations than we should. The food arrived and we found the gourmet chips and onion rings were over salted, even for me. Not sure quite why you would salt onion rings though. The burgers were considerably below average and I'm going to say the chef isn't happy and it shows in the food. The guy didn't crack a smile, not even once. Finally the price, €10 per burger & €5 for Each side. For me this on reflection was priced due to the location and not the quality of the product, which is a shame. I've always wanted my reviews to be honest & I'm disappointed in myself not bringing it to the managers attention. The Star Pub should probably get just the one (star) as the name might suggest. I'm not that...
Read moreWe had taken train from Naples to Sorrento, and after checking in, we walked around a bit then decided to get lunch only to find out that all the recommended restaurants closed at 2pm or 2:30pm. As we walked by this place, we realized it was open so popped in.
The staff were friendly even though they spoke very little English but a smile works great anywhere! We were seated at the back of the pub right next to the kitchen and as it was late, the cook wasn't busy. So my wife looks at the menu then turns around and asks him what he would recommend! Big grin on his face and he says "the beef"!
So we had a couple of beers (Peroni on tap, I think) and burgers. My wife had their recommended three burger sliders and I had their double cheeseburger with bacon. Condiments were all Heinz. See the pictures.
The sliders were tasty but small and maybe not so well balanced as they were too small. They have full size versions of each and we think those might have gone better. My double cheeseburger was very very very good! The bacon was perfectly cooked and the balance between the bacon, the cheese and the beef was just right. The beef was juicy and the buns were grilled. Altogether a very satisfying lunch! We would come...
Read moreStrange experience. Wanted a change from pizza and pasta after nearly a week in Italy and this was close to our hotel. Had to ask twice for my partner's beer as my cocktail came before it did. I ordered the fried chicken burger and after a long time was told it was off the menu and did I want either grilled chicken or the same combo as a hamburger. I chose the later and have regretted it since then. We had had a long day at both Pompeii and Vesuvius with a hold up on the way back from our tour and just wanted something quick. After asking for the bill twice I told my other half to go and pay at the bar as I didn't want to sit there any longer. When he did he was told they were just coming with lemoncello (which we didn't get) and were all smiles and thanking us very much. It wasn't a cheap meal but I've had better burgers in burger king. Would be fine as somewhere to start a night out but wouldn't recommend as...
