We chose this place specifically because of the great reviews I saw, and I wanted to explore something Southern Italian.
Loved the friendliness of the staff and the owner. Although we struggled a bit with language barrier, they did their best to make sure we understand. The woman serving us was very helpful and explained things well, at least from what we thought until we got our order.
We ordered a small focaccio and I wanted to try the and wanted to know what different flavours they had. The waiter said you could get one with veggies, and another one with ham and cheese and I don't remember the other one. So we chose the vegetarian one. But we wanted the small one that was 5 Euros. Now...as a traveller, we keep our eyes open, but when we got this, we thought, nah...is this a mistake, this is not what a focaccio looks like? At least the ones we've had/seen before. Then we thought...hmmm.. the restaurant is a Southern Italian one, maybe this is how they serve focaccio in Southern Italy. So we proceeded. The vegetables were very well done, and I enjoyed them. As for the...hmmm...I think the best word I can use to describe it, it kinda felt/tasted like pita bread...ohw...to our very unbudgeted for surprise, the meal was 15 Euros.😲I could feel my bank balance screeching...
Apart from the order being incorrect, the price was painfully steep for that serving and even the ingredients. Important lesson, ask ask and ask more. Have a list of translated questions so you can ensure you ask the right questions. Do look at the menu online and Google what the food photos look like. Most importantly, for the restaurant, I love the kindness Iof the staff and the manager. Very helpful and kind. I strongly recommend they put some photos of the meals especially for tourists like me to have a visual idea I'd what we're ordering. We did Google a few things, but that kind of focaccio was not what we planned for. Ohw and they don't do tap water there, so if you want about 750ml of water, it's 3 euros...we did pass one of the street markets selling a 2l bottle for 2 euros (thos is for the low budget exploring students or travellers). The atmosphere is pleasant, I liked the interior of the place. Just terribly disappointed by that foccacio order. Thank you for the kind service though...
Ohw. And they don't do split payments, so think it will be best to rather ask beforehand for it to be ranged separately if you want to...
Read moreThe whole meal was great - but the Gnocchi was life changing. The gnocchi were beautiful and fluffy, covered in the perfect amount of white sauce that you could dip the complimentary bread in after all the Gnocchi is gone. I’ll never look at pasta in the same way.
Beyond the gnocchi, the restaurant was quaint and welcoming - with kind and friendly staff. If you can try and get a seat outside. It’s on a quiet street so you get to watch the locals taking evening walks with their dogs and other tourists making the mistake of walking past Pane Vino (and missing out on the Gnocchi).
If you do choose to make the right decision to come here, ask the waiter what they recommend as we did and all the food was amazing. There is a service fee of €2 per person and water is €3 for half a litre (I think), so when you know this in advance it’s not a surprise when you get the bill. The prices of the meals are incredibly reasonable so these little additional charges are fine. If you want to save some euros simply skip the water and go straight for wine.
This was 120% better than any gondola ride, so skip that and go have two meals at Pane Vino for...
Read moreWe are very happy to have stumbled upon this place while wandering in Venice. We had a lovely time. The food is very nice and the lady who served us was really lovely. There was no room outside and she did her very best to find us a table after waiting inside for 10 minutes and she was very friendly and smiling. The only shame is that they don't take tips on cards, it has to be cash and we did not have a cent on us!!! I feel really bad that we could not recompense her excellent service. Hopefully this will make up for it. Don't get sucked in by the tourist traps in the main part of Venice, if you visit make sure you come to Pane Vino it is a bit off the beaten tracks but at the same time not too far and it is really...
