This was our last night in Italy and we were celebrating our anniversary so what better way then at Danieli rooftop! From the moment we walked in we were made to feel like pheasants or inferior to anyone else. My husband was wearing nice white shorts with a button down and closed toed shoes (not sneakers). I was wearing a fancy black dress that flares out with heels and elegant jewelry. We were excited to spend our last night at the most gorgeous rooftop restarant in Venice. The guy at the front desk was very rude and made us feel like we don’t belong because my husband wore shorts. I understand there is a dress code. But it’s also 100 degrees right now and all the restaurants we have visited with dress codes have all been very accommodating. We came from ballagio and Milan and lake Garda and dined at their finest Michelin establishments and although my husband wore pants we saw others in nice shorts. By the time we got to Venice, the pants we packed were not as crisp and clean, so he opted to look more polished by wearing nice white shorts and figured they would understand. Instead they tried to bring out some old fashioned black trousers that were way to short on my husband. Did they seriously think ankle short pants that made him look like an idiot was better then the nice outfit he was wearing? This is not common sense, this is stupidity. And a Restarant like this should know better. Then the guy at the front desk told us we can sit inside as if he is punishing us or hiding us. Or offered for us to go back to our hotel to change which is on the other side of Venice. That’s $170 taxi round trip. That we would have to pay 2x. This is ridiculous. The worst part was that I was already sitting outside at our table while he went to try on the pants and then when they didn’t fit they made us leave. We have dined in nice restaurants all over the world and have never been humiliated like...
Read moreI rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience at Terrazza Danieli in Venice was so disappointing that I feel it needs to be shared.
First of all, this restaurant calls itself fine dining, but it’s anything but that. The food itself was just OK—not bad, but certainly not worth the steep prices. The view is beautiful, and I’d recommend coming during the daytime to enjoy it. However, a nice view doesn’t excuse terrible service.
If you’re charging fine dining prices, the basics should be flawless. Instead, I had empty plates sitting in front of me for 15 minutes while three servers stood around chatting, even though there were only six tables in the entire restaurant. My empty wine glass sat untouched the entire meal—not once was I asked if I’d like another. At no point during the evening did anyone ask how the food was or how my experience was going. That’s just unacceptable at any level, let alone at a restaurant positioning itself as luxury.
We had also noted in our reservation that we were celebrating our honeymoon—a once-in-a-lifetime occasion. Not only was there no acknowledgment, but it felt especially careless when we saw staff go out of their way to celebrate birthdays at 2 separate tables next to us. I wasn’t expecting free cake or extras—just a simple “congratulations” would have gone a long way.
On top of this, the cover charge is €12 per person at lunch and €16 per person at dinner, which is excessive given the level of service we received. I’ve eaten at multiple fine dining restaurants across Italy, and this was by far the worst service of them all.
Bottom line: the view is nice, but if you value genuine hospitality, attentive service, and an actual fine dining experience, look elsewhere. Terrazza Danieli simply does not live up to its name...
Read moreAmazing view!! Not the luxury experience you would expect from the prices and the "Luxury Collection" name. Marriott Bonvoy should rethink this partnership. This property is not up to the "Luxury Collection" standard.
Most high-end restaurants in high-end hotels (in the US) don't allow patrons to play loud music at their tables. Especially when there is live entertainment! In this case, a gentleman was employed by the restaurant to play soft rock on a guitar and sing. The table next to us was playing their own very loud music from a phone with no headphones. It made it difficult to hear the restaurant's performer and was just generally distasteful and irritating. We asked one of the servers to ask them to turn their music down because we presumed that this was unacceptable. The restaurant has a dress code so we figured there was a minimum level of decorum expected. The server snapped "if you don't want to tell them to turn it down, I'm not going to either!" and just walked away. The music continued. The manager did apologize for the rude server but asserted the family's right to play their music as loud as they wanted because he "wants all the customers to be happy". Evidently that doesn't apply to those of us who wanted to hear the performance.
Maybe this is normal for Venice but just be prepared that "high-end luxury" means something different here than what you may have come to expect from Marriott's Luxury Collection in other parts of the world.
