Right after our journey from visiting The Teatro La Fenice (which was amazing, too), we, a group of five, went to this restaurant. I have done a research about lot of restaurants in Venice, and this one is in our top list to-try. When we arrive, the area outside was already full, but we prefer to have the lunch inside anyway. Luckily, we got a table. the person, who welcome us, I think, is the manager (if not the owner) was very friendly and very welcoming. We were excited to try some food already. Just as us ordering the food, another 4 tables next to us had filled with people already. Now into the food; we ordered Seafood Risotto, Seafood Spaghetti (Frutti di Mare), Catch of the day grilled fish (sea bass), Bacon Carbonara. We didn't regret to have a minimum order of two Seafood Risotto, it was excellent. One of the best food, we had in Venice. Not fishy at all, a very savory taste, plumpy mussels, fork tender calamari, fresh shrimp, oh my my, I can't explain it anymore as I am drooling again when I'm typing this. The Spaghetti Frutti di Mare is my favorite, too. I've been trying some frutti di mare dishes around Venice, and I have now two favorite restaurants in Venice to have it, and Sant'Angelo is definitely one of them. It is not fishy at all, a bit stronger salty taste than any other common pasta dish in a good way, it brings up the savory taste, too. It has less tomato-y taste than my other fav restaurant (of spaghetti frutti di mare) which I was a bit skeptical about it when I see the color, but once I bite it, oh boy, it just blows my mind: it was that amazing! And for Frutti di Mare, spaghetti is a must (not linguini, not spaghettoni nor others). Spaghetti is the best pairing in pasta dish for frutti di mare. And this place just nailed it! And again, the quality of the seafood was very very excellent, it was fork tender and plumpy and so fresh. The grilled sea bass (catch of the day) was great, too. it was tender, definitely not fishy at all, it has that aroma of a bit burnt grilled (not burnt at all; just a pleasant smell of grilled fish) which brings up the flavor of the fish. And finally, the bacon carbonara is really really using caramelized bacon, so it has that savory smell and taste on the bacon. Perfect tenderness and size of the bacon. It was still juicy (not too dry), and the juice mixed up with the carbonara pasta was the perfect pair. The carbonara was not too liquid-y, so it needs the juice from the bacon. The egg and cheese flavor on the carbonara is on point (no gimmick at all). It was not too creamy, I think they are using real egg yolk on the sauce, i felt that it was so authentic on my end. last but not least, we still ordered the tiramisu, and wow, i think the hype from the other reviews about it are real. The tiramisu is not too sweet (it is just nice and i think it is what the original tiramisu should taste like). I can taste the creamy marcarpone cheese with the cheese flavor (because other place's Tiramisu sometime taste too bland, but definitely not on this place). The rum soaked lady finger is perfectly tucked in into the marcarpone cheese. And the coffe powder on top is the icing on the cake: a perfect bitterness of coffee to balance the flavor. Overall, everything were very very much lovely and delicious (which is rare in my opinion from one place restaurant in venice to have everything perfect). Kudos Sant'Angelo. I have saved in my google map, if in the future I visit Venice, i will definitely visit you again! Pls keep the standard by then! Thank you for making our lunch memorable and making our Venice experience great! Great and friendly staff too!...
Read moreThis was the absolute worst meal we had in Italy, probably one of the worst restaurant meals I’ve ever had especially at the price point, we wanted to love this place but it fell sooooooo short
We waited 30 minutes for a table which was fine, they brought us Prosecco while we waited, we didn’t have a reservation and had no issue waiting
We then were seated and waited 30 to 45 minutes for water and wine to be brought to the table, during this time we were asked to relocate to a different table which we agreed to though we thought the request was odd
I then noticed them asking another table to relocate to which the table said they did not want to and were allowed to stay at their original table, this made me start wondering what was going on.
The staff proceeded to play magical tables moving people all around the restaurant to accommodate large parties, one party was moved tables TWICE, it seemed incredibly unprofessional and poor planning on their part, this magical chairs game I have never seen before; food finally came after an hour and a half to two hours of being sat
I got the gnocchi with scallops and it had absolutely zero flavor, the only thing I tasted was the salt I added to the dish, my wife got the tagliatelle and it also had absolutely no flavor, I don’t understand how a restaurant with such phenomenal reviews fell so short but the food was horrible, not bad, horrible
At this point I had to work for 15 minutes to flag down someone to pay and leave, we just wanted to leave after the horrible food and the absurd amount of time we’d sat in this restaurant for a simple meal.
The entire meal nobody checked in on us to see how things were, we had to actively try to flag down someone when we needed anything, this was the slowest service I’ve ever experienced in my life at a restaurant. We spent over three hours here just trying to eat dinner.
The only good thing we had here was the bottle of wine we purchased. We wish we could have experienced the dishes that have produced so many...
Read moreBased on prior reviews we had anticipated a decent meal but it fell far short of our expectations. We had a reservation and were greeted with two glasses of Prosecco, which I had hoped was a sign of things getting off on the right foot, but I was mistaken.
Once seated it took about 15-20 minutes for a waiter to arrive to take our order, which honestly has been pretty standard for our Italy dining experience so far, but once we ordered it took over 1 hour for our appetizer to arrive, and at a cost of around 25 euro, I would have expected a bit more than 1 tiny shrimp, 2 tiny scallops, a bit of octopus salad, and a few other bites.
Our white whine arrived to the table and was placed without any sort of wine chiller, so it became warm very quickly. A wine chiller was brought much later into the meal but the wine had already become warm. The seafood pasta was flavorless and also felt expensive in terms of price vs quality. Finally, the baccala main arrived and we were disappointed to see it was simply 3 pieces of the baccala and polenta bites that were included in the appetizer, and I found it to be quite bland. The mixed fried seafood was actually quite good and the only thing I enjoyed about this meal.
At one point during the meal we were asked to relocate tables to the back of the restaurant in exchange for a free dessert, I declined because not once did the waitstaff check on us or apologize for the food taking so long (1+ hour for appetizer to come out) but they had the audacity to ask us to change tables in the middle of our meal. Not to mention the most expensive coperto I’ve seen in Italy thus far (4 euro per person) and the worst service I’ve received.
Overall, this felt like the worst value meal I’ve had in Italy during our...
