I really wanted to like this place.
I stumbled upon it in an small alley while exploring (getting list) the Venice. The restaurant looked inviting and outside gave a nice mystique charm.
The staff was good and provided some recommendations. But each person has their own rights to what they like which brings me to why I can't give this place higher stars. I ordered pasta and wine: pappaderlle with duck ragu and parmegiano the noodles were amazing! Texture, mouth feel, the chew... Everything that I have never experienced before (first time in Italy but not first noodle dish) Sauce was kind of one noted and I felt like the duck pieces were dry (maybe that's what ragu supposed to taste?). They were small enough (grounded size) that the sauce made it "ok" (bigger pieces were noticeably crumbly) This I have not mentioned in my feedback to the staff, out of the whole dish two bites had something "crunchy" in them and I couldn't figure out what it was (I don't think but possibly salt crystals). This was not expected and unpleasant. Nebbido 2022 red wine - I don't know enough to judge this, but it was "ok"
One thing that made me tad upset is I was charged in USD vs EU without asking me if I wanted to convert (and pay DCC fee). Where we (me and establishment) both loose. (Not sure if it was due to my negative feedback)
I do encourage you to give this place a try because I feel like maybe I didn't pick...
Read moreWow! We stumbled over this amazing wine bar and restaurant completely by accident one night and we are so glad we did. Its an oasis of the best local food and wine in a sea tourist trattorias.
First impressions are informal and unassuming but venture inside and you will be delighted. The place is very cool especially the courtyard area which provides as calm intermate space for drinks or dinner. The menu is small but everything we ate was superb as was the wine. The food is elegant and simple, the best of what the market has that day with a Venice twist. An amazing selection by the glass as well as the bottle.
The staff are lovely and were spot on with their wine recommendations. We were shocked by how good value it was, for both the food and the wine.
They also take apple pay, much to our relief when we realised we had gone out without a credit card or cash!
You can call to make reservations, or pop by but at the time we visited they don't take online bookings. A visit to Stappo should definitely be at the top of your to do list when...
Read moreWarning! Be aware if you are a tourist they will treat you differently and it’s not acceptable!
I went with 7 others friends to this spot that look beautiful, wine was good (natural wines).
We had cheese plate and sausage as appetizers it was small but the quality was good. Then a bit of everything on the menu.
Octopus was small, the duck really overcooked and the gnocchi had zero taste and where overcooked too, the tartare was good.
Then we had to tell them we could not eat some of the plates.
They didn’t refund anything except one fully untouch plate (we had 3 gnocchi plate and already knew the taste of it) by tasting the 2 others.
Total +40€ per person for not being satisfy, we had to eat somewhere else after.
But the worst happen when we payed, we realized that the cheese and cure meat plate of other table where bigger a lot bigger.
For this reason, for being treated differently, run away from it.
There is one star on my review because I can’t put less and the service was at least good.
To resume a tourist trap,...
