Ristorante Scapin 1935 — Restaurant in Verona

Horrible. A true kitchen nightmare. Madly enough we went in because a nice old man recommended it to us outside the front door and said it was the best food he had ever eaten! We arrived at 2:30 and the place was empty. There wasnt a warm greeting and we were told we could sit where we wanted. We ordered water, the recommended tortelli, beef with potatoes and a side of baked veggies. The Tortelli Alla Amerone was disgusting, like a cheese stuffed ravioli on a bed of cheese with cheese slices on top, served with dollops of jam and slices of nettles. Sounds as lovely as it was. Needless to say I had a few bites and left it. My girlfriend had the beef steak with potatoes and we asked for the sauce to be seperate. The steak arrived covered in sauce and we got a surprise free mushroom sauce too! I told the waitress that we asked specifically for the sauce to be seperate and she didn't do anything except talk about the new sauce. The chef seemed overly offended at her feedback. I tried one bite of the meat and wanted to vomit. If it wasnt for the over the top baked veggies, the meal would've been a solid 0/10. With a glass of less than average wine, the bill was 67€, which is an absolute disgrace. Being charged 3€ for tap water in my eyes is completely unacceptable. We left hungry, less than impressed and would recommend anyone who likes their food to avoid this nightmare...

Had a fair but not exceptional dinner here while in Verona. We made a reservation based on reviews we had read but were somewhat disappointed by the lackluster level of service and mediocre quality of food preparation. Of course we were tourists but there was a noticeable difference between the attention we received compared to other patrons that were obviously regulars. Our waiter took our order and brought our food but that was about it. Our wine and the risotto was actually quite good and had us looking forward to the Secondi which looked wonderful when brought to the table but didn’t live up to the expectation. My wife’s salmon was over cooked and my pork was a bit tough and not very flavorful.

As tourists we realize many restaurants know we will most likely not be returning customers but we still can review our experience so others can make their own decision on...

I cannot express how good this pasta is! My dish of Tortelli with amarone and cheese was INCREDIBLE. I was practically licking the plate when I finished. It is very quiet and off to the side so not many tourists or too much noise. It was also open later (12 am) and serves incredible house wine. They have a wine of the day which is 2.50 euros and they are all delicious.

We sat outside on the side street and completely finished our plates! The staff were very nice and had good recommendations for wine pairings.

During the day, they also have a standing area with bocadillos and smaller snacks you can enjoy with a drink.
