A absolutely amazing hidden gem, a food lovers dream filled with locals. Saporè Downtown serves up "pizza in a variety of new concepts" in my personal opinion they have taken food styles and techniques from other cooking methods and cuisine combined them with fresh fine Italian ingredients to create something truly unique. For what it is and quality of food provided, they are incredibly well priced! I had 2 pizza's (if you have a Mozzarella di Pane, I suggest you do the same) a glass of wine and dessert, total 43,00€ which I was more than happy to pay. To distinguish a pizza place or even any restaurant is no easy feat yet Saporè have managed to do so, not by trapping tourists but with their fellow countrymen and women! I can imagine what they serve up may have received a lot of criticism from traditional pizza lovers and Italians alike but it is simply amazing and now my favourite restaurant to eat at whilst in Verona. I shall be visiting each an every time I am in town!
What did I eat?
Mozzarella di Pane Polpo: An Oriental style steamed black dough topped with fresh burratta, confit tomato and as you can see a perfectly cooked octapus tenticle.
Aria di Pane L'imbottita: A delicious, light and super crunchy sandwich looking pizza, cooked to perfection and sliced horizontally across the middle and filled with Mozzarella, beef tartare, capers, olives, confit cherry tomatoes and mixed leaf salad (in the centre) sprinkled with a variety of seeds.
Both paired well with a glass of Metodo Classico
A finally followed by Passionfruit cheesecake, several layers of fresh marscapone with breaks of Passionfruit coolis and then topped with perfectly granulated hazelnut crunch.
Hidden a way down a quiet side street, Saporè Downtown is less than 5 minutes walk from the Arena. Entering the Cittadella with the long sweeping row of tourist trap restaurants to the left and the arena directly ahead, walk over to the right hand side of the arena and follow the road straight down, once you reach the end take the left, where a quick bit pizza place sits just on the bridge, take the 2nd right and you will see the glass pyramid skylight (pictured) and the restaurant is appx 15m up from there on the...
Read moreVery friendly staff and a modern atmosphere to welcome you. The quality and preparation of the food was very disappointing. No love, no passion, no Italia. the mixed salad was not mixed, only shredded iceberg, the chicken filet that came with was also chopped, it was dry, cold, rubbery and certainly NOT fresh. -the Pizza Mediterranean: tomatoes and tomato sauce out of a can, straight, no herbs or spices of any sort. The dough prefabricated and the olives of lowest quality. A giant leaf of basil (fresh!) to disguise the convenience food style. The Spritz Campari was okay. All in all certainly not worth the money. It was a Saturday night, the place had 5 tables busy - so certainly no stress in the kitchen...
Read moreDuring my short trip to Verona, this was the only pizza I had during my stay - and wow! One of the best pizzas I’ve ever had (and I’ve eaten a lot of pizza all over Italy).
I am veggie so had the margarita single crunch. The bread was light and airy with a delightfully crunch base. The tomatoes on top were so sweet and delicious.
They also served an amuse-bouch which was very tasty. Even the italian cola was yummy.
A lovely restaurant with delicious pizzas. Highly recommend - can see why it gets so busy. The photo of the restaurant was taken just after 7pm on a Friday evening. With 30 minutes the place was...
