Trattoria l'Altra Colonna — Restaurant in Verona

This was the best restaurant we ate during our trip to Italy! I'm not talking about the most sophisticated or expensive or different place. It's a local Trattoria, with an awesome service and a very delicious food. We arrived late at night and even thinking they might not cooking anymore, they received us very well and we were treated like special guests. We ordered bruschettas and some pasta and they recommended a great wine, explaining the differences and talking about our dishes (my wife ordered a gnocchi al gorgonzola and I asked for the Bigoli con il musso, a very local dish). Everything was so perfect we decided not take a risk eating on other place and we returned for lunch on the other day! For lunch we started with a Polenta della casa and for main course we chose the Risotto all'Amarone, other local dish. Was amazing. For meat we tried the filetto all'Amarone and the cotoletta classica, both just perfect. Again, Mauro recommended a great wine to harmonize with the food (already done with Amarone wine). We regret not having enough time to try all the other dishes, but its a place we'll always remember the people and the great food they serve. Ci siamo recati oggi a pranzo e l’esperienza è stata del tutto negativa, appena recuperato vate, eravamo in 2, ci fanno accomodare e subito ci portano 2 menù alla carta, noto che nei tavoli di fronte a noi c’erano degli operai che e quindi ho chiesto al cameriere se avessero anche il menù a prezzo fisso quello che si fa per chi lavora, e il cameriere mi dice che fanno anche quel tipo di servizio elencandomi a voce i primi e i secondi, senza specificare cosa comprendesse questo menù, ho dovuto incalzarlo per capire se fosse compreso il vino ad esempio, cosa che non era compresa, mentre acqua, caffè e fantomatiche “bevande” a suo dire erano comprese, allontanatosi questo cameriere ho chiesto ad un’altro cameriere quanto costasse questo menù a prezzo fisso, e quest’ultimo rivolgendosi ai suoi colleghi ha sparato una cifra a coso di euro 18,90, ma un altro cameriere gli ha risposto che il costo era di 15,90 se ordinavi primo e secondo e 12,90 se prendevi solo una pietanza, quindi altre informazioni date male, e non certe, come se il prezzo lo stabiliscono a spanne in base al cliente, ma le sorprese non sono finite, io avendo preso un primo e un secondo mi viene servita una “braciola” che era sottile come una suola da scarpe e dura come carne essiccata, praticamente uno schifo, vedere l’immagine, ovviamente dopo averla assaggiata l’ho lasciata, ci siamo alzati e ho fatto le mie rimostranze al cameriere che la “braciola” era immangiabile, ma la sorpresa è stata alla cassa, dove è saltato fuori che il menù fisso con un solo piatto costava 10 euro e non 12,90 come comunicato prima. Ora io mi chiedo, perché non hanno chiesto che tipo di menù preferivamo quando ci siamo accomodati, perché il menù a prezzo fisso non viene menzionato al cliente dal momento che lo fanno come servizio a pranzo, e soprattutto non viene data una lista con specificato i costi e cosa comprende, perché fanno uscire dalla cucina una bistecca fatta ai ferri millimetrica e stracotta? Perché non hanno comunicato i costi reali del menù a prezzo fisso ma hanno sparato cifre a caso? Veramente deludente, scarsissimo rispetto per i clienti, non meriterebbero...

The reviews of this restaurant looks good, and its location to the arena was very close. We were pleased to be eating in a restaurant full of Italians having lunch, it seemed to be a good venue for work meetings. The service was very fast, possibly too fast as we were given the menu and about a minute later ask what we would like. Our waiter had a cold and kept sneezing which was a little unnerving. It took a little while to go through all the different options. There was a really good range of cutlets. I went for the small one, it was enormous.
