World's warmest and nicest Japanese man that owns this place. Friendly to foreigners as him and his wife both spoke English and made me feel insanely comfortable as my Japanese isn't that strong and I have social anxiety eating at Japanese resteraunts in Japan. The Japanese patrons that were here very thankful to him bowing to him constantly and thanking him for the meal. Some of the best tonkatsu I've ever had in my life. It's in the basement of an office building. Price is good considering a piece of kurobata (Berkshire pig) at any other place is half the size. In total for my set and drink I paid 3150 yen (as of 2024). If I come to Kagoshima again I will come here again.

Looked high and low in Kagoshima the Kurobuta Pork paradise for a top quality Tonkatsu restaurant using quality black pork. This is the place - the owner has been plotting his trade of Tonkatsu for over 30 years. The pork itself is sourced locally and from the same farm. Every tonkatsu is freshly made as you order. None of the fancy tonkatsu dishes you get but all you need is the original dish as it was made from the beginning. Top quality hole in the wall is what makes this place a gem and a must visit when here in Kagoshima. Seriously friendly proprietor who is the Chef himself. The staff too are very friendly too. Family friendly too. A must visit for lunch or dinner.

I spent quite a lot of time trying to decide which tonkatsu place to try in Kagoshima (known for "black big" pork). I chose this place because it seemed less touristy. It also happened to be right across the street from my hotel. The staff was super friendly. The owner was fun to talk to. The food was great and probably the biggest tonkatsu portion I have ever had in my life! I ordered the "hire katsu" which was really good, but everyone else seemed to order "rosu" (so that's probably the one to go for). Definitely check this place out if you're in town. And make sure you arrive on an empty stomach!

Awesome pork cutlet. In America, it would be called an Iowa Chop. This was a thick cut loin Chop breaded and fried. It was amazing. It came with salad, radish, rice and miso. What a great dining experience. The owner and cook spoke almost perfect English and was an awesome gentleman. You could tell he loved what he did. This is the famous Kagoshima Berksire pork. Don't miss this spot. I will certainly return on my next visit to Kagoshima. The Cutlet was extremely tender and juicy, the mustard and sweet soy souce completed the dish perfectly.

A true gem. The head chef is super nice to foreigners, speaks English and came over to teach me how to properly eat tonkatsu. The serving sizes are very generous, definitely worth the price. With a Hill set + a beer I almost rolled out of there! You should order the hill set if you want a single big slab of pork with a lot of fatty layering If you want something a little more lean go for the upper cut loin set. Both were awesome and I’d come here again in a heartbeat. I truly felt welcome. Great customer service!

Yoshiaki San and his staff were very friendly and the food that he made was very delicious. Their last order is before 8pm but they were very nice to accommodate us. Portion of food was generous and he taught us how to eat it by applying mustard first and then followed by the tonkatsu sauce. Also remember to space out the meat so it will cool down faster. The place was cosy and peaceful, it is really a hidden gem!
