Seafood and Japanese food HERO Umi Hanare — Restaurant in Kumamoto

Can I give more than 5 stars to this restaurant? This place was a very happy accident for two tired Canadians who had just got back, late, to Kumamoto after a full day hiking and going to onsens. Our intent was the Hero Umi in the station, but they were closing and the kind service person walked us over here. Big star there. We were shown how to use the ipad ordering machine, used our translator to figure out our order and then the happiness followed with efficient and kind staff bringing our meal. Each dish was presented beautifully and, so tasty. The house starter of tofu with a bit of fish roe was an exquiste balance of taste and texture. The sashimi plate was wonderfully fresh, the salad had so many flavors with a light dressing to accent the taste of the vegetables instead of overpowering them, the scallops were barely cooked so their sweetness shined through and the horse mackerel was grilled to perfection with a soy glaze. JR熊本駅近く、「駅から百八歩横丁」にあるお店。 自分は福岡なので、熊本は馴染みがないんだけど、お店が入っているビルの一階にはいろんな飲み屋さんが並んでいて、なかなかいい雰囲気。HERO海さんは熊本駅はじめ何軒か魚料理のお店を出されておられ、この「はなれ」は全室個室という、居心地の良さ。一緒に行った人とじっくり話をしたい時には最高です。 コースは、飲み放題付きと料理だけのがあって、お酒飲まない私には、料理だけのコースがあるのがありがたい。お造りや熊本名物の馬刺しや辛子蓮根もついていて、熊本気分が楽しめます。 この日、最後に出てきた土鍋炊きのご飯は「コーンご飯」。 なーんだ、コーン飯かぁ。。。と最初思ったのですが、このご飯が想像を絶するほど美味い。甘味たっぷりのコーンに、ちょっとお焦げのある炊き立てのご飯が絶妙。ご飯の味付けがまた、醤油バターなのかな？主張が強すぎず、コーンの甘さを引き立てる。 正直、こんな美味しいご飯が出るとは想像していなかったので、びっくり！ついついおかわり２回もしてしまいました！ 写真撮っとけばよかった(＞＜) ...
