I visited Bassanova in Kyoto, drawn by their vegan options. I started with the dumplings, which were surprisingly delicious and a highlight of the meal. Next, I tried their vegan ramen, which, while decent, didn’t quite meet my expectations. Having sampled various ramen across Japan, this one ranked as my least favorite. It lacked the depth of flavor and richness I’ve come to expect from a good bowl of ramen. On the positive side, the portions were generous and satisfying. The service was quick and efficient, making the dining experience smooth and hassle-free. Ordering was straightforward, thanks to the kiosk system, which streamlined the process. Overall, while I appreciated the effort to cater to vegan diners, the food, especially the ramen, fell short of standing out in Kyoto’s competitive food scene. The dumplings were delightful, but the ramen left much to be desired. If you’re in the area and looking for vegan options, it might be worth a visit, but it’s not a place I’d rush back to. Bassanova is a decent choice for convenience and vegan-friendly options, but it doesn’t quite deliver the wow factor that makes a meal truly memorable.

Absolutely delicious ramen. We were looking for vegan options and lucky enough to stumble on this restaurant near Nishiki market. It was tucked a bit in but super easy to find. You order on the machine which had English as a language option. We ordered the green curry ramen and the beet root one and they were both delicious, super flavorful and the noodles were thick which I liked. Options to add in other toppings, we added in bamboo shoot for 200 yen and also added extra noodle to one for a bigger portion. Also got the veggie gyoza was pretty average in my opinion, I think I prefer it fried and this one was more boiled. Owners were super inviting and friendly.

So now I’m just casually enjoying ramen like a local. No more skepticism, no more questioning my life choices in the queue. I’m in. The cult has me. This bowl? Beautiful. The extra chicken was tender enough to make every KFC in the world file for early retirement. The broth hugged my insides like a warm apology from the universe. Every slurp, every bite—perfect balance between chaos and calm. And the chopsticks. Somehow, eating with them just hits different. I feel oddly elegant, like a noodle samurai—half Zen master, half clumsy foreigner, fully satisfied. Final score: 5 out of 5. I didn’t just eat ramen. I experienced inner peace seasoned with soy.

We checked out this spot looking for vegan ramen. For what it's worth, I'm not vegan, but I have to avoid seafood due to allergies, so vegan ramen is really appreciated for safety reasons. This is one of the best things I've eaten in Japan so far. I had the vegan green curry ramen. My wife had the tonkotsu ramen. We both raved about it on the walk back to the hotel. For the meat lovers out there, you can add pork and / or egg and both were very good! Even if I ever solve the allergy issue, I would go out of my way to eat this. I only wish I was hungry right now so I could go eat more. To cap it all off, the staff was playing some early 00s post hardcore and punk bands, which was absolutely our vibe. One last note, the staff seemed very friendly and patient with a misunderstanding happening at the table next to us. If you find yourself in Kyoto, consider this a destination. I'm...

Amazing find in the busy Nikishi markets! My wife is a vegetarian and one of the few spots nearby that carers for veggies / vegans. Self order which is great, I messed up and accidentally ordered the same as my wife.

As a meat eater, I am very pleased to say the vegan green curry was delicious!

Staff speak great English and are super friendly. When I was surprised by the fact I was dished up a vegan meal, which was my error, I explained it to the chap and he gave me a slice of pork (which is the ramen I wanted) totally free, with a good sense of humour and with no issues.

The ramen was amazing and the piece of pork I had melted in the mouth. Also great beer here, Blue moon which I was very surprised to...
