C'est Sympa — Restaurant in Kyoto

This was by far the best pork I've ever had!! The chef and his wife are amazing, very welcoming and nice people. I always travel alone but this was not a problem here, I sat at the bar and we had a nice conversation. The chef seems to love french cuisine and you can tell by his work.

The food: The entrée was very refreshing in contrast to the summer heat in Kyoto, the pork and eggplant paste was amazing but the corn cream with the meat stock jelly on the side was very special. After that I had a delicate but flavorful cold soup. The star was the main course, best pork I've ever had, so tender and juicy it was spectacular. Dessert was good, highlight to the apricot sorbet.

Unassuming little restaurant with an amazing dining experience inside. The friendly husband and wife team works hard to create a homey atmosphere while producing some of the best French cuisine we've had outside of France itself. Every element is meticulously crafted by hand, and for a one-man kitchen, is really impressive (one guy does cook-to-order entrees and the desserts! I'm tired just thinking about it). Part of me considered NOT reviewing them, just so I wouldn't contribute to making them too popular and risking not being able to get a seat the next...

Loved it! Stopped on a whim for lunch after a visit to the nearby castle so we were a bit informally dressed. The lunch option is a set menu - and everything we had was delicious. The chefs and waitress were cheerful and respectful in spite of our casual dress. One of the best meals...
