We found this quaint, homie restaurant randomly while searching google maps. While looking through the menu and reviews I realized this was an authentic Kyoto speciality serving kaiseki style cuisine. They have an English menu and best to do one of their set menus. Presentation was like a present itself!!! Two boxes covered with a beautiful Japanese print. You remove it and I immediately knew this was going to be special. Wonderful cute dishes of seasonal vegetables and small bites of tofu and meats. You could really taste the home-style cooking and care in each dish. The main consisted of wagyu beef and a side salad. So juicy and tender! We got a side of tempura and I wish we could get this style of tempura in the US. This restaurant fries it so delicately that the crispy batter just melts in your mouth. The owners were true hosts and really added to the experience. Before we left she wanted to mark her own memories and asked us to sign a guestbook and put a pin where we came from. She mentioned not many Americans came by. And as a final parting gift she wrote us a note “Arigatou” and folded the paper into origami and created a butterfly. We were so touched! Thank you for such...
Read moreabsolutely delightful lunch! for a price of 2000yen you get to experience the chef’s cooking fresh food infront of you using Kyoto’s fresh vegetables and seafood. For 3000 yen you get dessert and coffee too.
I love how they give you chopstick holder and an origami before the meal. Huge selection of fun chopstick holder which at the bottom of it supposedly tells your luck.
I love my seat at the counter so I get to see the action happening! from cooking, prepping and plating. I think 2000 yen was value for money because the place is very homey (you could tell his love for minions and plants all around which made it very charming) The dishes were all flavourful too!
Because there are many dishes per meal, it did take some time for it to be ready. So I do not recommend this place if you are in a rush. The location is in an office building so dont miss it! 4 counter seat and 4 other table seatings, it is very intimate and lovely....
Read moreWe had the joy of dining here last month, on our first night in Kyoto. We were looking for an experience and saw this restaurant - all the reviews looked great.
On entering, our host informed us (via using translator on phone) that they prepare all food by hand, so it takes some time. Personally, I didn't find the wait too long, especially given the great quality of the food delivered.
I recommend trying one of the "set menus", its many small plates with a different taste. All of it is beautifully presented, and each was delicious. It was also our first taste of wagyu beef - it was excellent.
Finally, I must compliment the owners, Naomi and Kazuhiko. They create food with such skill and care. They also were so friendly and kind, that they really made our meal special!
Come to this restaurant and enjoy the experience, you...
