il pozzo — Restaurant in Kyoto

Just a wonderful meal in cosy atmosphere and great service. The building was an old townhouse with lots of character internally. My wife and I picked it from a list provided by our hotel and only a short walk away. The hotel made our reservation for dinner. The welcome was great from our waiter with good English throughout the evening. We shared the mixed appetizer which was very good. Good variety of ham, salami, chicken, mushrooms, prawns, cauliflower puree, whelks and a sashimi. We had a glass of the Montepulciano and the Nero Davolo (x2) which were very good. As a main I had the beef fillet and my wife had the Spaghetti Vongole. I have to say the beef was just fantastic. Tender and full of flavour. It was served with well cooked broccoli, baby corn and radiccio. The pasta was also very flavoursome. Pudding was the Affogato and Catalana which were perfectly fine. 2024/02 We visited during lunch time on a weekday. There was only one other group of customers besides us, and we made a reservation, but no reservation was necessary. I thought the appetizer portions were smaller than before, but they were delicious. we recommend.

2017/11 The entrance is hard to find. The amount of appetizers is large. Adjustment with spaghetti water is good and it is delicious. The staff is kind. Price is common.
