Enoteca Via Salaria — Restaurant in Kyoto

Found this true diamond in the rough. Feel like I'm writing a yelp review right now but this place truly deserves it. Tiny off the beaten path, 10-13 seat Italian wine bar, hole in the wall. Chef/Owner/WineExpert Kenji, lived in Italy for 12+ years as an interpreter. Prior to that, he was a McDonald's store mgr for 12 years in Japan. Been working since he was 15 years old. Moved back to Kyoto and opened this enoteca in Kyoto after his stint as an interpreter. Owning this enoteca is the happiest he's been. He lives upstairs by himself and his dog and is a 1-man army running the show (has a great menu with imported cheeses, charcuterie and olives + the most extensive Italian wine list you will find in Kyoto) I asked him how come he's not on social media more as this place could be a monster hit with tourists like me. He said certain sites charge too much. Nevertheless, I will try my best to do what I can. I came on a slow Monday night. There was 1 regular there who left shortly after I arrived.
