A fantastic spot for a bowl of delicious and hearty ramen near the popular Fushimi Inari Taisha. We had to wait about 15 minutes for a place (like many eateries in Japan, this is cosily-sized) but it was absolutely worth it.
Something I really appreciated about their ramen was that it was served with different cooked vegetables - maybe not the most traditional, but very welcomed by these veggie-deprived visitors.
We had the niboshi and kare (curry) ramen. The niboshi was my favourite, I have a big soft spot for seafood and umami-rich broths. My partner really enjoyed his curry ramen, which had a nice warmth to it. Everything was fresh and delicious. We upsized the bowls and got extra veggie toppings.
We also had two serves of the gyoza, which were crisp, hot, and delightfully savoury.

Read moreAmazing food, amazing people! Eating at Kyoto Shoryu will be one of our most lovely and memorable experiences from our trip to Japan. We showed up one evening soaking wet, exhausted, and with a fussy baby after seeing the Fushimi Inari Taisha. The married couple who run the place were so gracious. We said sure and our baby immediately took to her and was calm. She went on serving other customers and even took our baby behind the counter and her husband played with him a bit too! It was such a sweet, funny, beautiful interaction. HIGHLY recommend eating here if you're in the area, especially if you have a...

Family was walking down from Fushimi Inari Shrine. It was 8:50 pm as we were walking all the way from Mt Inari.
Hunger had set in. We found this place and the husband and wife team made us feel welcome even though they were closing in 10 minutes.
We got the pork barbecue Ramen. One of my daughters is vegetarian. Both options were amazing.
We have been in Japan for seven days now .. and had been having food on the move. I have not been able to write much about food on the move. But this Ramen was as good as we have had … and more importantly the Sake was lovely.. not strong .. just right. The amount of veggies and pork in the Ramen could have fed two people..
If you visit Kyoto… I assume you will definitely visit the shrine. Please pay this little restaurant a visit. Remember...
